Reynolds Buick 65 GS
« on: January 16, 2009, 05:33:50 PM »
I'm looking for information on the Reynolds Buick 65.

Does anyone know what color it was (all I've seen are black and white pictures).

Does anyone have any articles or color pictures of it?

Does the car still exist today?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of the option of building a tribute car some day and I'll want my color options to match the Reynolds Buick options.

Since it's a "tribute car" and I'd plan on running it down the track every now and then, unless I can find a nice GS post with an automatic, I'll probably choose a clean Skylark post car like the one I just bought, combine it with my stash of GS and Skylark left over parts and clone it.

This would be a really fun car and it'd be really neat to see something that looked like her go down the track at BPG and Bowling Green.

Any information would be helpful...

Chris, there are a bunch pictures of the Reynolds 65 GS on V8 Buick.
There are a couple here on page 18:

Sorry to say, that car was wrecked. There's a pic on page 19.

Great idea for the tribute car!

Thanks Walt.. I got a ton of pictures and some really good information from that thread.

You are right Walt, it looks like the Reynolds 65 GS was wrecked at somepoint and was probably parted out and scrapped.  This is sad and at the same time cool since there is no one out there to get their underwear in a bunch about replicating a car they still own.   ;D

It would always be advertised as a "Tribute car" and not the real thing, and I'd strive to keep it as period correct as possible.

I'm still looking for anyone out there that can tell me the original colors of the car (interior / exterior).

I'm posting all my new pictures and information on the Gallery if you want to check it out.

Looking at that picture , looks like the engine is not in it. Notice the front end sits up a bit.

I looked through some old articles I have , unfortunately only black and white photos, no mention of the color combo.

Wonder if there is any one around that was connected with that car?

Chris,

Seems to me I recall something about that car being light aqua. You might want to send Guy Parquette a pm, he might know what color it was.

Ok Guys.. I'm not going to steal Tom's thunder here, but he's been doing some follow-up with the Reynolds family who still own and operate the Reynolds Buick dealership in CA.

Tom asked the son if he'd have an issue with someone building a Reynolds tribute car and the son thought this was an awesome!

Here's my idea guys...

Set a goal to complete a Reynolds tribute car for the 50 year anniversary at Bowling Green & other events (BPG etc).    2015 = 6 Years!

What I propose - I propose that the 65GS.com website and 65 GS Registry sponsor the car.  Since neither of these make any money (neither was ever intended for profit) maybe you guys can help me figure out how to pull this off.

Here are some of my thoughts....

If I was to buy the parts and ship them, would some of you be willing to donate your time to rebuild them?  Examples would be engine - transmission - rear end - assemblies like shifters etc?

If I was to add a shop on the page and offer T-Shirts, mouse pads, coffee mugs etc do you think folks would purchase anything?  I would offer both the 65GS.com logo shirts and even 65's with your preferred color combination.

Any fabrication folks out there?  Would need things like replica tow bar for underneath the front of the car etc.

My intent is to involve anyone who wanted to be involved in this but not solicit for donations etc.

What are your thoughts on this?   Any other ideas?

Chris

That would be cool Chris!
I propose you win the lottery, build a GS restoration facility (complete with test track), and invite us all to live there for no charge as long as we would work on your GS's!
Boy, wouldn't that be a retirement dream!

Back to your idea... I would be willing to help out. Shipping costs might be prohibitive tho.
I do a lot of glass beading, painting and powdercoating, metal repair/welding, and even small parts plating here at home.

As Chris noted eairler Don Reynolds gave me permission to build a clone.I'am going to call next week and talk to his dad who was on vacation this week. From what Don remembers,it was his dad that flipped the car on the way home from the drag-strip.Pomona is only 4-5 mile from the dealership and they drove the car back and forth.Starting raining on the way home and with the slicks still on his dad lost control and flipped it.I will post any new information next week after i talk to his dad.Don was a very nice guy to talk with and very down to earth.

I'd be interested in working with the folks here to build an accurate clone. I could donate a bunch of labor at my professional restoration shop. What do you guys think? Does anyone already own the proposed candidate car?

Wow Mike.. awesome offer!

Right now I'm fishing to see who is interested and gather ideas.

Support has been very good so far.

I personally need to wait a little bit and wait for the economy to look a little better before buying a donor, but this is something that could probably happen within the next 18 months.

I have excellent post doors, skylark fenders (will need converted), hood and trunk lid.  I also have a couple GS auto transmissions, console / shifter etc.

What is missing - GS or boxed frame, 401, headers, motor mounts, posi rear, post body shell, wheels - period correct tires, porti-vents, battery cables, interior kit and all the other little bits and pieces.   ;D

Labor is a big part and you taking on some of the body work is a big step forward.
