64 Skylark convertible
« on: April 16, 2016, 11:28:25 PM »
I was told by the previous owner it's a 301 motor, however, I read that Buick had a 300 CI motor. Also read that some Buick got the Pontiac 301. How can I tell which it is?

It has some rust, and wondering if I am getting in over my head. The front part of the conv top is rusted too. Can these be replaced easily?

The buick 300 motor was used from 1964 to 67 .Look at some of the pics
In the gallery on this site! Or Google buick 300. The 301 was used in some later
Buicks .The floors and truck floor are repos ,they make a repo front header for the top.
The parts place and others carry these to!

More questions:

Front bench seat - I have one in the car, however, it is bent back, and I'm not sure if it can be repaired. Anyone have experience getting these fixed?

Also have some rust in the trunk where the body bolts to the frame. Could this be a serious problem?
I'll try and post some pics.

Bent or tweaked seats can be a real challenge to get straight! Sometimes replacing them
Is less hassle! The rust in the trunk by the body mount is common! A replacement panel with the trunk floor attached is made just for this problem.

First of all, welcome to the 65GS forum.  Always good to have new enthusiasts join us.

I have a 65 Skylark parts car with a front bench seat.  The upholstery is shot, but the frame is in good condition.  Not easy to ship, but available.  Where are you located?

Cheers!

Dear Polishmeatballpizza, gssizzler, Chuck, and mid-60s Buick fans,

Could you perhaps post some photos of your convertible?  If you are worried about something, a picture is a lot easier to diagnose!  You can attach digital photos using the "Additional Options" feature of the forum that is under the text entry box.

Cheers, Edouard

I'm wondering, do the aftermarket full-length floor pans come with provisions for seat-bolt mounting?

I think I'm going to need to cut off the seat bolts to get them out. They are so rusted, the shape of the bolt has diminished.

Looks an awful lot like a 65 to me.
Special Deluxe? Post pics of the data plate on the firewall and VIN tag.

Agree with Mark, that's a 1965 Buick Special based on the front fenders and dash surround.
