My '66 Special....
It's not restored to original... it's better!
300 V8, added a 4 bbl intake, dual exhaust, Richmond 5 speed trans, fast-ratio steering box, fat swaybar, and disk brakes. Great driving car.
I just call it my 'Special'. It's an it, not a he or she! Some people say 'nice Chevelle'.... yeah, whatever, thanks. :drunken_smilie:
The '72 SS' license plate was just stupid (bad) luck.... or maybe a wise guy at the DMV....
Built it 'my way'.
Nice!

The top that was on it, what was left of it, was white.

My bad, "1" is white convertible top

Got a picture of the back?

The back end is definitely Special Deluxe with the chrome panel between the taillights.  Kinda confusing since Special Deluxe should have had the full padded dash that extends over the glove box area.   Base model special would look like this in the rear with the basic taillights and no chrome panel between them.
'64 Skylark 2dr ht 4 speed, 300-4
'65 GS ht, 4 speed,2-4s,AC,PS,PB,PW,Pseat,Tilt

'78 Yamaha DT 400 2 stroke

'89 Ford F-350 4x4

The padded dash would be a option not standard ,my special deluxe did have  the full dash and a buddies car did not!

That answers that then!  It is a Special Deluxe.  I have never come across a special Deluxe without the full padded dash, so was not aware that was an option.

Dear Walt, George, Brian, Jon, and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

My '66 Special....
It's not restored to original... it's better!
300 V8, added a 4 bbl intake, dual exhaust, Richmond 5 speed trans, fast-ratio steering box, fat swaybar, and disk brakes. Great driving car.

Looks great Walt!     I need to also upgrade the steering and suspension on my wagon as you have.

I just call it my 'Special'. It's an it, not a he or she! Some people say 'nice Chevelle'.... yeah, whatever, thanks. :drunken_smilie:

. . . Awe shucks Walt, that won't due!  Once all cars become self-driving, how can you ask your car to come to you if it doesn't have a name! . . .  :overthetop:

The '72 SS' license plate was just stupid (bad) luck.... or maybe a wise guy at the DMV....
Built it 'my way'.

That's not very nice indeed.  I suppose you couldn't ask for another plate.

The padded dash would be a option not standard ,my special deluxe did have  the full dash and a buddies car did not!

I didn't know that either.  I thought I had a price sheet for the Special and it doesn't list the padded dash, but it was a late recreation, so that doesn't surprise me.

Does anybody have an authentic list of options for any of the mid-60s Buick A-bodies?  I'd be curious to know what they look like.

George, I hope you are comfortable with your car's revealed identity!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:
