Cross-reference help? Tailgate "BUICK" letter for 1965 A-bodies.
« on: February 20, 2025, 06:41:53 PM »
Dear mid-60s Buick experts who have cross-reference catalogs and aren't afraid to use them!

There is a seller on eBay with the "BUICK" tailgate lettering that is listed as fitting only on the 1964-65 Buick Sportwagon.  Here is the listing:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235966515634

I double-checked my 1965 Buick body manual and while it is a bit ambiguous, it sure seems to me that the "BUICK" lettering is the same on the Deluxe Special and SportWagon models.

I have some comparison photos.  Here is Biquette's tailgate:

Here is the tailgate of a SportWagon currently being advertised on "Bring a Trailer:"

Sure looks once more the same to me.

Can anyone with the appropriate documentation tell me if I could pick up this lettering as a spare?

Thanks in advance!   :hello2:

Edouard

64-65 Wagon tailgate letters the same and the same as Special models (with the trunk lid "BUICK") EXCEPT the "I" is different - see attached photo.

Also please reference pages 91, 97 & 707 of the 830 pages here: https://65gs.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/1964-72-Buick-Master-Parts-Catalog.pdf

PS - I wonder if the clips are the same as the Corvair clips - I would need to research further - details here:

. . . . .

Definitely good information!

. . . Of course you can see from this picture what are the essential distinguishing characteristics of a Deluxe Special wagon:

Don't all Deluxe Special wagons have a scuba diving flag as a hitch cover and a baguette in the cargo area? . . . . . .
