Dear Mike and 65GS.com judges of mid-60s Buick "flesh,"

Nice car bad choice on motor .

Huh? . . . . .  :icon_scratch:

If you had a car with really only 13338 miles on it, why could you change anything to the car - never mind change the engine?  Okay, the odometer could have rolled over, but the car seems in really great original shape.  Even the California license plates look in great shape and date from the 1960-70s.  Maybe you guys can figure out what is going on here, but I sure don't get it!

There's probably many reasons.. The original engine could have been irreparably damaged, so they replaced it with another 300.
I think it's quite a nice resto.

why are we thinking the engine was swapped?  the vin decodes to a 300 car.

The listing now states that “the engine is not original to the car”. It is a cast block with aluminum heads and intake. Sounds like a ‘64.

Other than that it seems like a nice resto.

One possibility--there are performance reasons for putting a 64 engine vs the 65.  The 65 cast iron head 4bbl engine has issues with spark knock due to the high compression.  The Aluminum heads/intake from a 64 mitigate the spark knock issue and keep the high compression pistons.

They can't all be big blocks.  With the right small block, these cars are not only very peppy, they handle very nicely.
Excellent explanation and thoughts on the engine mods Brian.
