Old Buick guy newbie member
« on: April 03, 2019, 09:50:05 PM »
Hello from Canada.
I have a 65 gran sport I started to restore too many years ago  and never finished, ended up in my barn as a later project- u have heard this story before, we all have. I sold it 2 years ago regrettingit, but purchaser never picked it up so I bought it back yesterday. It never moved out of my barn. So, I'm committed to finish it and will need all the help I can get. I posted info on my v8 site and a member put me on to you, wow, had not been aware of your site! I was looking for pictures of gran sport racing history as I want to do a period race theme on my car.
I have owned several buicks, restored and assisted several ground up , I've found my self lacking motivation but felt excited when my car came back to me. Hate to start something and not finish it- maybe I'll get it done after all!
Gotta get it done!

Welcome Robin! Great to have another fan doing a restoration.  I'll second the recommendation to start a restoration thread, share pictures and ask questions along the way.  Ask for parts too; some of us have a few....  :laughing7:

Dear Robin, John, Loren, Jim, Chuck, Bill, and 65GS.com welcome wagon!

By all means!  Welcome to 65GS.com!!

I have a 65 gran sport I started to restore too many years ago  and never finished, ended up in my barn as a later project- u have heard this story before, we all have. I sold it 2 years ago regrettingit, but purchaser never picked it up so I bought it back yesterday. It never moved out of my barn.
. . . .

I'm so glad that you avoided the seller's remorse!  There are lots of guys who weren't so lucky and wish they could get their project car back!

By all means any pictures you could post would be appreciated!  As a little encouragement I'll offer you a set of before and after pictures.  My wagon stayed in our family the whole time so she didn't degrade too much.  Still, here is the dash dismantled as part of the installation of the new steering column and Vintage Air aftermarket air conditioning:

Here is how the dash finally turned out:

So keep the faith!   :angel4:  Restorations do eventually turn out as long as you are persistent but patient!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome, and remarkable comments and oh so beautiful pictures! I'll do my best to keep you posted on the project, shown is the picture of my car in the barn, I stumbled over it while on line and called the guy I sold it to, was pretty annoyed honestly that he did not call me to advise he was selling it. I refunded him and no harm done, I win!
When I get back to Ontario later this month I'll post out some more pics. Car was Arctic White and I was considering repaint it black on black, gets pretty pricey tho, so after seeing some race theme cars I'll prob go white with that in mind. The 401 is rebuilt and on an engine run stand, inside my heats garage, I'll flash it up soonest as its been too many years. Should be OK as I oiled up the cylinders after last run up. I'll video it and have some fun. I also have a full factory dual quad I restored, and ready to install, was going to sell it recently but car came back to me so I'll keep it! Gotta fab an air box tho, maybe fun it through the inside headlight! Lots of ideas! Cheers
Thanks again, I'll keep in touch!
Gotta get it done!

Dear Robin and 65GS.com member who find technology a little more tangled up than it ought to be,

Oops, picture would not go through, not so good on this stuff . . .

In most cases the problem is that your image is too large to be accepted by the forum software.  You need to make it smaller.  How are you managing your pictures?  Are you using just a smart phone or are you downloading them onto a computer.  If you are using a PC, you might try the program attached to this posting:

http://65gs.com/board/index.php/topic,103.msg638.html#msg638

Other board members have found it very useful.  If you aren't using a PC, perhaps we can help you resize your photos some other way.

Do let us know if we can help.

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:
