Are you keeping the red interior?

That's a good question and I probably will because it's a big deal to change over the interior color of the dash and dash pad. Although I do have the complete white interior out of the GS.

..... it's a big deal to change over the interior color of the dash and dash pad.......

And if you do change the interior color, to be 100% correct you have to paint the ash tray door two shades off from the rest of the dash! Buick could never get that color match right except on the black dash.

Glad you found a replacement car, that two tone interior is gorgeous. It's rare to find the upgraded Skylark interior in a Special, it was an extra-cost option.

Been a while since I updated and thats because I haven't really done anything to move the project forward due to an overfull garage and winter.

Yesterday I charged the battery and started up the GS donor car. the engine runs quite well with no smoke or abnormal noises which is a nice surprise since it's never been rebuilt.

Dear Bob and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

The engine is indeed running very nicely!  Agreed that's a nice surprise!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

.....

Well, I'll bet MY overfull garage is more overfull than YOUR overfull garage! :icon_biggrin:

My projects also barely progressed over the winter. I did fab up some patch panels with a bead roller and shrinker/stretcher. New techniques for me so it's been slow. Last summer my 66 vert got a floor and trunk. Did a bunch of blasting and primering too. Next I'll be piecing the rear qtrs back together.

Do you have a final plan for the Special, or are you waiting for a more suitable car? I'd suggest taking the A/C off and utilizing the firewall/cowl openings for a cold air intake. There was a 68 GS option like that, and I think Doc did that too.

If I can pick up that Special post car I have been negotiating for, I will send this car down the road and concentrate on saving the GS using 75% of the Special Body. I will of course be keeping my Rally wheels and will bolt stockers on the white special before it goes away. I've already got my wifes blessing to proceed so all thats left is for the seller of the post car to keep his word and sell me the car for the agreed upon price.

I gave up on the 66 post car pictured in the previous above. the guy was totally inflexible on his price and it had a lot of damage. I got motivated yesterday and went out and tore into the GS parts car. pictures reflect aprox 2 hours time with hand tools and a dewalt cordless impact drill and I am a bit sore today. all body mount bolts are out except the two for the trunk mounts and that is because the rust caused the caged nuts to break and spin. I will be stripping every single usable part off this car and there are lots. core support was perfect as was passenger inner fender.
