Newby from central Illinois
« on: November 24, 2017, 05:59:15 PM »
Greetings all. I'm new to the forum and not real familiar with the GS...... yet! So my story starts a little over 25 years ago. This new guy hires on where I work, we're about the same age, both ride motorcycles, both enjoy a few beers, and both chase women, instant friendship. After a while I find out about this cool old car he has stashed in his mom's garage, a 1965 Buick GS. So I've always been a Ford guy ( with a dash of Mopar ) so I research the car a bit and finally get him to let me check it out. It's a pretty cool ride and I try to buy it, he says no way, I'm gonna fix it up again ( he had done paint and fix up work some years earlier). So fast forward about 25 years, we're both long time married and not chasing girls but we both still enjoy a cold one now and then. I'm passing through the little burb where he lives and I ring him up and say, hey bro lets go check out your old Buick again, he says SURE! Next thing I know I'm setting up what day to come pick it up! Here's the plan, fix the needed mechanical stuff, clean her up a bit and get it on the rode. Thanks in advance for all the help the wealth of knowledge on this sight will provide! Let's get to wrenching!!!

Welcome John !

Yes, the site is touchy that way.  It was set up to save server space.

Here is a link for re-size help. I use it for all my pictures and keep it handy on my Desk top.

Currently working on a 65 Falcon Gasser ( street/ tribute ), straight axle, high stance. Had several Mustang GT's, currently an 05 GT convertible fair weather driver. Raced Mopar stuff back in the 70's.

Dear John and mid-60s Buick caregivers of "sleeping beauties,"

Thanks everyone, Fired up the new family member today. It awoke pretty easily from its almost 30 year nap. :hello2:

Congratulations!   Sometimes it takes months to get an engine to turn over after 30 years!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

It was stored in a tight, dry garage. The interior is worse from the extended hibernation, but the power train seems fine. The engine didnt want to turn at first with a breaker bar so I pulled all the plugs and squirted a bit of oil in each hole, let it soak over nite and rocked it back and forth a little...... Bam, good to go. New points and plugs, some fresh gas, fresh oil and filter and it lit right up. After a few minutes of running it smoothed right out, even idled. Carb leaked a bit, but thats to be expected. Lookin' real GOOD! :blob7:
