Dear John, Vinnie, Kevin, Loren, Mark, and mid-60s Buick patriots,
Thanks for the video Chuck - definitely gets the message across!
If you need a pick-me-up after those sobering thoughts, you might play some John Phillip Sousa marches. A local classical music station started a 9 am march feature where every morning they would play some sort march to help the listeners "wake up." That got me interested in marches as a musical style. Of course there are many stern marches that were written for their original purpose: keep the soldiers in cadence. However, Sousa kicked off a whole new musical form and quite a few composers started writing marches as popular pieces say for the circus.
So if you've got a Sousa album floating around somewhere - today is as good a day as any to play it! It is definitely one way to feel upbeat about American patriotism.
Cheers, Edouard
