Joe,

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been busy getting the frame back under the body. Now the fun part starts, putting the dash back together. I haven't seen any recent updates from you on your project.  Is it in the paint shop?

You're not alone Joe!
Many of us are in a parallel....plugging away on our Buicks...miles and miles away from each other.

Your car looks great John!

I wish I could report some major progress, but this cold weather has slowed me down to the point where I'm practically hibernating! My garage is unheated. Even my basement shop is cold since I started heating my house with a wood stove....

I've been working on a (another) '66 GS. It's getting a mild 401 and a Richmond 5 speed. Engine is done. Still have some items to take care of before it gets installed....
Rebuilt engine mounts from Steele Rubber are due in next week....
Had to have the Richmond tranny's input retainer machined down to fit the stock release bearing and also to fit the bellhousing.
The Long shifter is about 1-1/2" further back from the stocker, so I need to fab a new shifter mounting plate to move it foreward.
The shifter hole was cut yesterday on a rare 50 degree day! (boy, that felt good!)
Also just realized i need to go thru the starter BEFORE I install the engine!
Finally, I need to fab the brake lines for the disk upgrade.
Once those items are done, I can install the engine!
My goal is to have the car together for Yardleys Buick picnic on May 9th!

I'm waiting for my transmission and shifter before I swing into action-
Then its hurry up and wait for the interior guy to free up a spot, then hurry up and wait for him
to work on the interior...That reminds me, I have to get the silver headliner stuff from SMS!

Ted,

Do you use an interior guy there or go across the river?

We have one decent shop up here in Lima but they are really expensive (only shop here so they can be).

I really need a fellow who is good at refinishing stainless / aluminum trim parts here in Ohio, any suggestions?

If you had one of "My Mini's" Walt you wouldn't have to worry about it SOOOO much as they will come out without loosening or removing anything.
   Just a thought.

New date for Yard's is may 2nd. Not the 9th.

Wouldn't want Walt showing up a week late.

I'm using Darrin Cutter @ http://www.customstitchin.com/  for this one.  He is a perfectionist and a great guy  to boot.  Busy as heck, even now.

On trim I've used a fellow over in Covington for the 65.  There is a shop in dayton too, I'll have to look them up.

John,

Your car looks awesome, I'm so jealous. I haven't done much with the GS. I have some parts coming from Brian which I'm looking forward to getting. The job has taken me away from the car and this forum for a bit.

I'm still working on the gas tank install. Harder than I thought with the car on stands in the garage and not trying to nick and scratch everything.

Thanks for all the compliments about the convertible.  It's a pleasure to work on such a clean car. Sometimes, I go out in the garage just to stare at it.

Mark, I know what you mean about the job getting in the way of working on the GS. I either have the money, but no time to work on the GS. Or I have the time, but no money to spend on the restoration. The only major big ticket item left is the engine rebuild. Want to come to Kansas City to help? The BQ is on me. For the time being, I will work on the trim, interior and the dash assembly.

Mark, regarding the gas tank installation, have you thought of using a floor jack to help. Secure a large (1"x1' x 2')padded wood board to the jack face. Then use the jack to gently lift it into position and then secure the gas tank straps. This should keep the gas tank from getting scratched and save your back.
