Title: Photos of Buicks during Autumn 2018
Post by: elagache on September 22, 2018, 04:19:31 PM
Dear mid-60s Buick owners who keep an eye on the seasons,

Hard to believe the summer has gone by so quickly but today is the astronomical start of Autumn - the equinox.  For some of you, it is time to starting planning on putting your classic away for her long winter's hibernation.  Still most of us will be able to squeeze in a few more drives before the bad weather sets in.  So to encourage everyone to not forget your camera on those last drives of the season I have a bit of inspiration.  The first example was taken a few years back:

(https://photos.smugmug.com/Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette/Biquette-at-Flying-A-Autumn-2015/i-D6hRqZ7/0/ce2e680f/XL/Biquette%20and%20Flying-A%20-%20high%20res-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette/Biquette-at-Flying-A-Autumn-2015/i-D6hRqZ7/A)

Alas this station has been sold and it isn't clear if the historic Flying A brand will be retained.  The brand has a long history as described on this Wikipedia article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidewater_Petroleum (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidewater_Petroleum)

Tidewater Petroleum created the Flying A brand in 1932 so it is a very historic chain of gas stations.  The Flying A logo disappeared in the western United States in 1966 and in the east in 1970, before being revived after 2000.  So it makes for a very nostalgic photo - suitable for digital aging.

The other photo is more astronomical in nature.  Our garage faces due east, so around the equinox our cars almost line up with the rising sun.  I've always had a fascination with ancient moments with astronomical alignments, so I couldn't resist trying to capture this scene:

Perhaps it is a stretch to call it "wagon-hedge," but it is definitely another way to capture a classic car in the season.  I hope that's some inspiration to look for some "out of the box" ways to photograph your classic!

Like it or not Autumn is here so get out and drive your classic while you still can!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Just a few minutes ago.

Was going to make a quick drive around the back roads before sunset.

Might be able dodge the rain...

Should be a good time for pictures in Kentucky. The drive down to Beach Bend with the trees and the fences should be great photo op.
Title: Very nice! Keep them coming!! (Re: Autumn 2018)

Title: Two more . . . (Re: Photos of Buicks during Fall 2018)

Dear mid-60s Buick owners who watch the seasons turn,

It's been a few weeks since anyone had contributed anything to this thread so I thought I would give it a poke.  Biquette has some shopping duties to perform and that took her to a strip mall that has some trees that can look nice in Autumn.  California was on the edge of drought last Winter and the trees show it, but here are two images.  First some yellow foliage:

Next a tree starting to turn red:

Since Autumn usually is much more beautiful in other parts of the country, it shouldn't be all that hard for somebody to top these pictures.  Just find yourself some more impressive trees, park your Buick under it, and snap away! Title: Impromptu opportunity. (Re: Photos of Buicks during Autumn 2018)

Dear owners of photogenic mid-60s Buicks,

My trusty wagon got the "grocery getter" assignment this morning.  It was a quick run and I didn't plan on taking any photos so I didn't take my DSLR along.  However in the early morning sun, Biquette had something special so I pulled out my iPhone 6 and attempted to capture the moment:

(https://photos.smugmug.com/Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette-in-Autumn-2018/i-jFKHLnr/0/4e5d8fc8/XL/Biquette%20at%20Moraga%20shopping%20center-XL.jpg) (https://canebas.smugmug.com/Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette/Photos-of-Biquette-in-Autumn-2018/i-jFKHLnr/A)

It is another example of how even smart-phone cameras can still take very nice photos of our classic Buicks.  It also shows the benefits of trying to get as low as possible so that you "fill the image" with as much of your car as you can manage.  Alas, one serious disadvantage of smart phone cameras is that few of them have an optical zoom.  Between having to move to make sure that you have framed the image to avoid distractions and having to bend over - it is a bit hard on the back and the knees!

Looking forward to the photos taken on around the Grand Nationals!  :hello2:

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Yup. Actually smart phones mega pixels outdo the earliest digital cameras. Only thing a bigger cam with more lens can get you is more zoom. But for our cars, phones work really well.

Well yes, early digital cameras had their limitations but long before that there was another medium to capture photos - film!!  I'm not sure where I'm at but I might have still taken more photos on 35mm film than I have taken using digital devices.  So I'm used to taking more challenging photos than digital cameras were able to take until probably about 10 years ago or so.

Edouard - I know, I know. Before i removed the radiator hoses and dained the radiator, a couple times I really was on the lookout for a nice backdrop. My climate is so temperate colors usually come later.

For those folks in BG, now that's the real charm. Looking forward to photos of that.
