Unbelievable how quik this is coming together.

That tach is way too cool. I'd like to get one for my GS.

All,

I have a early square grill emblem, so we can check that off the list also.

Tom was going to check with Reynolds to see if they have some plate frames.

As soon as we can decide on what color the interior was, I'll buy a set of visors and send one to Pete Reynolds with a white paint marker and one to Jim Bell so we have autographed parts for the car in case something was to happen before the car was completed.

I look forward to the day when the car can make the trip to Cali and we get the dash etc signed with some pictures.

I'm talking to Tom and we are thinking that this Spring might be a good time to make the road trip to RI to bring Mike a car.   ;D

I need to start figuring out realistically what this project will cost out of pocket to make sure I can afford it and that obviously will help determine when we can get started.

Chris, I was on V8 checking out the old race picture's thread and the pic of the int where you see the tach, is kinda posted together with the Boulevard Buick. Could that tach not be in Reynolds car? And belong to the Boulevard Buick?

Just something I noticed.

Joe,

I was guessing that this was an interior picture of the Reynolds Buick as the hood and lower dash colors seem to match the Reynolds car.

The two tone interior would have been correct for a post car and I think the Blvd. car was a convertilbe.

Ok Mike.. I think you win the prize, she sure looks like a Sun Tach to me.

Everyone please keep your eyes open for one of these?

I did also notice that the interior had two-tone seats, which were only used in the post cars.

 As I was pointing out, there were only four colors for post "GS" interior.  Those colors were  black, blue, red and saddle. With that said, the Reynolds car could have only had a saddle interior, from looking at the picture and considering the contrast between the two colors of the seat in the picture.

Going with the Saddle interior, the dash, steering wheel and carpet would have been saddle. The headliner would have been Fawn color.

Is the subject post car complete? What is the condition as it sits. Can you email me some pics. I have a very methodical process to restoring cars and i'd like to make a game plan so we can discuss who;s doing what etc. I have no prob donating a fair amount of resto labor to the cause. I'd love to handle the assembly process as well.

   I was intouch with Matt at kennebells and getting a visor signed is not going to be a problem.Have a call into Reynolds Buick and haven't heard back from them but i don't forsee any problems there.Still looking to talk to another person for some info.   Chris,can you say"ROAD TRIP!" Mikes place looks like about 10 1/2 hrs. and 650 miles from my house and your about 3 hrs further west.  I'am ready when you are.

No rush... I need to figure out how much this is going to cost.  Till then we can collect parts and keep doing the research.

I'll post some pictures of my post car this weekend.. she's amazingly solid and is an original Black Plate car.

I have found a correct Sun tach on Ebay and I'm going to make a go for her if the price stays reasonable.

Update.I talked with Don Reynolds again today and he is looking forward to getting the visor signed by his dad for us.Chris,i have the address when your ready.Now,as far as color.I'am getting conflicting comments depending on who i talk to.Don Reynolds had Spence Lyon call me today as he worked for Reynolds for 30 years.Mr.Lyon stated that the car was definitely Champagne Mist.Wasn't real sure about interior color but positive of the exterior color.This got him thinking and he told me that a friend of his that also drove the car is still around and he would give him a call.                                                                             About a 1/2 hour later my phone rings and it's Mr.Lyon.He said that he talked with"Ed" and he remembers the car having a dark brown dash and door panels.Kinda funny,Ed told him that his wife even ran the car down the track and commented about it being to fast for her liking.I think i would give my right nut to be"back in the day"and involved with this.Just to let you guys know,Spence Lyon was  a wealth of information to Guy Parquette when he restored the original 70 Reynolds drag car.I would think with the interior being referred to as dark brown he meant saddle.I know Buick listed two saddle trims #159 and 199.Since we know it had a two tone interior was it a combination of both?Whatever it is we are getting closer to the real colors of the car.     Tom

From memory, the two tachs that were most prevalent back in the day was S/W and Sun electric... with the Sun being the premium one.... both would have been mounted in a chrome cup and either clamped to the steering column or hard mounted to the dash, just to the rt. of center of the steering wheel....
I did run the 091 cam in my 401 and it really performed well but would run out of steam by 5800.... lowend power was really good.... especially with a 950 cfm holley 3 barrel carb.... and a modified stock single 4 intake.... and red neck ram air....I remember having a conversation with Jim Bell in which he told me that they did have a 4.30 posi gear in the back..... I think it was actually a Pontiac unit....at the time the most popular gears were 4.56 and 4.88 for drag racing. Along this time the Pontiac posi s had steel cones in them instead of the paper clutches that the other cars had and were more desireable, because they were tougher.  The car was a 4 speed car as I remember him telling me.... I was running an automatic [switch pitch th400] so we didnt have that in common.... he did advise me about modifying the govenor to shift at the right speed so I could just stomp and steer.....
AS to the car color, I am just remembering seeing it in the rod books.....
The slicks pic a few posts back look right for the period..... M&H  ''cheater'' slicks with 2 grooves in them..... or Good years....
Another ''period trick'' was the cool can full of ice on the gas line....
and a hot wire run directly to the coil from the battery by passing the ballast resister.... be care full with this ,, use it for trips down the strip only.... also a toggle switch to the alternator field wire to kill the alternator drag....
and of course lubing the front wheel bearings with vaseline....
and engine ''blue printing'' was just getting started....
