Looking at a parts car
« on: June 10, 2011, 06:57:14 PM »
I am going to look at a 65 GS hardtop on Monday. Fellow that owns it says it is a rust bucket but still has all the glass in it. The exhaust manifolds and tail lights are gone but it is a three speed stick car. If you have any needs post them here. Mark, I'll see if its got a 3922 on it.

Is the drive shaft for a three speed the same as a four speed?  If so, count me in.  Also a spring to hold the jack and a steering wheel (black) with no cracks would also be of interested to me.    Oh yeah, and a consolette or correct shifter boot would be cool too.

Sounds pretty cool Dan.

Rob, my parts book says that both the shaft and yoke are different part numbers between a 3 and 4 speed. Group 5.441 three speed is 5695894 and four speed is 5695220. Would make sense since the 3 speed is a Ford (?) unit.
Of course I may be proven wrong.
A steering wheel with no cracks ? That would be worth a lot. I'll check it out though. Taking pictures too.

Typical Wisconsin parts car - no floors, no trunk, dash has possibilities, glass is good, stainless is nice, etc. The good part of the car is the engine compartment. Owner says the engine turns over and has probably never been rebuilt. The exhaust manifolds are gone. The radiator and associated parts are there. And YES it has a 3922S sitting on top of it. The owner isn't sure if he wants to sell the engine and/or parts or not. He will get back to me.

Very odd that it has the dash pot on the throttle.  Those only came on the automatic cars.  Makes you wonder if the engine was swapped at sometime in the past, but the carb being correct would tend to discount that.
I am definitely interested in the stick shift specific parts (with the exception of the carb of course).

Dan,

I already have a 3922 for my car (thanks to Jon), but it's always nice to have an extra sitting in my garage for no reason.    I'll offer two dollars and thirty five cents more than whatever Mark's highest offer is for the carb.    :icon_biggrin:

Rob, you're just too kind and a real friend.

 :laughing3:

Brian, Dan and I discussed the dashpot too. The throttle spring looks wrong too.

I talked with Mark on the phone about this. Had to do something to dry his palms. Owner says he will let me know in a few days about the various parts. Having him check the rear to see if its a posi or not. Does have a good core support, radiator and cross braces which he probably would sell. The grill is pretty good as are the headlights, etc. Didn't check the front bumper. I'll let you know what he says.
