which 65 GS turn signal switch?

Working on my 65 GS/Bucamino which has a 65 GS steering column and an after market wiring harness. Need to know which turn signal switch to order as PO said the guys building the car made do with a switch from something else. I am having problems resolving turn signal issues and thought I would start with the switch. Is there a specific switch that works on 65 Skylark GS without tilt and of course a four speed floor shift? Choices are a BPC or GUIDE. Since mine is the wrong part, how do I know which on to order?

Parts book shows 3 numbers for 65-66
1993624 with tilt wheel
911051 w/o tilt, Guide
387115 or 382048 w/o tilt, BPC

I have a metal-base switch I took from a V6 3 speed column shift car. It's stamped BPC on the plastic cancel cam......it did NOT fit my '66 4 spd GS column!

I suspect you need the Guide version.
Here's a good price for one on eBay. He mentioned the other pn's so he should be knowledgeable to help you out.

Note that the mounting screw locations appear to be evenly spaced..... that is one of the differences between the metal BPC switch and the plastic Guide switch..... mounts are in different locations.

Thanks Walt. I also have a BPC turn indicator switch from a V-6 car. I will pull the wheel off the Bucamino and see if it will match the screw pattern. If not I order the Guide version. I wasn't sure what the difference was so this information really helps.

Now I just have to be able to figure out the wiring mess. Most of the wires have a label printed on the wire that tells what it is supposed to be, but I can't get to the wires that attach to the steering column to see the labels. This is going to be a pain. Next the gauge panel needs to come out and the person who wired it didn't leave enough length on wires to allow this. Well I am learning more about 1965 electrical systems than I cared to learn.

GM used the two different switches without any pattern--I have seen both types in '65 models.  The housing on the column is made different for the two different types of switches.  My guess is that they had two different suppliers because one could not supply the full demand, so you will find different ones in different cars depending on which supplier the parts came from that week.   My '65 special 4-dr. had one type, and my '65 GS had another--both were built in the same plant. 
  By the way, the BPC switch is a much better, more durable design, so if you are out looking for a complete column, get one with the BPC style if you can.

Kurt seem's to me when I had my wiring out the dash panel  just unpluged? It's been awhile though maybe Brian or Walt can answer this for you Glenn.

You have to reach up behind the speedo and un-plug the big connector from the back of the speedo.  The wiring isn't long enough to pull it out and un-plug it that way.  There is a tab on each end of the connector that you have to press in to get it to release.  Also have to disconnect the speedo cable, the cig. ligher, clock, w/s wiper switch, and headlight switch before you pull it out.  That can all be done easily from under the dash unless it has AC--the AC duct makes it more difficult on those cars.

Well I was going down the wrong path. After studying the wiring diagram I discovered that the right front turn signal was internally shorted which was putting current into the parking light circuit when the turn indicator was flashing. I disconnected the wires to the socket and used a continuity tester in place of the bulbs and everything was working as it should. So I need a new turn indicator assembly. Since this beast has an El Camino body parts won't be a problem. I also tightened the windshield washer switch in the dash and now they seem to work OK. Next I have to tackle the interior lights.  :sunny:
