Horn
« on: December 10, 2010, 05:51:17 AM »
Hi everyone, I would like to know how many horns came on the 65 GS and where are they mounted ? Also on the steering wheel's horn how does the wire connect in the center. When I took the horn bar off the wire fell off and
I can't see how it is connected. The turn signals do not cancel. Do you think it is just the small cancel wires ? It has been some time since I had a GS but I am thrilled to be back. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks   Al

Hi Al,

GS has two horns, mounted on the right side of the core support, on the inside. Get yourself a factory service manual set,
all of that will be shown in them, or go to the Electronic Garage on this site and that info will be there.
Hope that helps!

Al,

The turn signal canceling depends on the steering column. The tilt wheel column is different than the regular one. Which does your car have ?

Al,

On the tilt column cars there is a rollpin that is pressed into the back of the steering wheel that cancels the turn signals. If you need some pictures I can get some for you.

Dan, What goes wrong. Does the roll pin fall out ? I am going to pull the wheel off and see. Also do you know how the wire is hooked from the horn to the wheel ? Thanks again    Al

Al,

The pictures are of my steering wheel. The rollpin is missing on mine because I have a different steering wheel on the car and am using it there. The pin uses the small hole next to the horn contact. The wires from the contact then go to the two sides of the horn bar.

Not all of the tilts have the roll pin.  Sometime mid year they switched to a plastic cancelling cam that is attached to the bottom of the wheel with two phillips head screws.  Everything else is the same.

I continue to be amazed and awed at the level of information available from the people on this forum.  Simply incredible.

Stumbled onto pictures of the steering wheel with the horn rollpin.

Dan

That must be why my signals don't cancel with the later rally wheel!
Thanks for the info, I'll have to fix that someday.
