It should have a gray dash as well as the carpet should be gray. How about the engine compartment?

Loren,

The engine is blue but seems to have the correct CA emissions for the period. Data tag is correct also.

I'm not finding pics of the engine bay at the listing, that is why I commented .
Cowl tag shows correct for GS.

Def. looks good. The hubcaps are fron a late 70's or early 80"s regal.
The engine is probably turq. but shows blue due to lighting.
The dash is odd., def. needs the charcoal grey. Looks good with out the wheelwell chrome.

I live in this area (I work in Van Nuys), if anybody wants me to go over and take a look, I'd be happy to.

Where are you located?
I'm often looking at what is for sale out there (JUST looking, honest!).
Here's a vert in the San Fran area:

And a red/red vert in Minneapolis for a good price:

Welcome Don. You are on the right website for learning more about the '65 GS. I also bought my '65 GS convertible when I was 19 years old in 1970. Still have it and am glad I kept it.

Regarding the convertible on Ebay, it was built in Flint, but from the photos of the underside, it looks like it left the rustbelt early for sunny California. The CA emissions hose on the valve cover looks to have been added later. In '65 the hose would have entered the aircleaner either in the snorkel or the side of the aircleaner. Is this a numbers matching GS? The low milage and lack of visible rust is always a good sign. The dash and carpet should be gray as Loren pointed out. Wrong engine color and chrome aircleaner are a curiosity.

The two '65 GSs that Walt pointed out on Craiglist look like potentially good buys also.

Good luck in you search for a drop top.

Don,
You're in the same area as Jon Thompson.
I looked at the MN pics, looks good from the pics, but would really do a personal look at it.
In my opinion, it would have to be pretty good to be $25,000. From watching the cars that have come up, the market is still very soft.

I agree with Loren on this one. $25K is a bit rich. The seller was offered $20K under the 'or offer' part of the ebay listing and turned it down.

I would be willing to hoof it out to look at the 65 in MN (ROB?) if anyone is serious.

Seems to me that we are currently in a buyers market.  The Minnesota car looks well priced for a buyer.  Mark - how about sunday?  we could report back to Don how it looks.

Welcome to the club.

We encourage the questions and you are amongst a great group of folks dedicated to the Buick hobby.  Like many here, I get excited anytime I hear of someone falling in love with the 65 GS and appreciating it for all of it's beauty, rarity and power.

My best advice is to make sure to buy the "right car" since the restoration costs on these cars can far exceed the current values.  Contrary to what a lot of people might say, I feel that the biggest bang for the buck is to start with a good honest and solid California or Southern car at a higher price but from a needy seller rather than a less expensive needy car.

Best of luck and keep us updated on your journey.

Chris
