Correct Steering Box?
«
on:
February 28, 2025, 10:02:21 AM »
Has anyone here ever done the homework to know what's a correct steering box?
Here we have a few pics of the (power) box in our car.
Think this one is correct?
Would be good to know this was the right one before spending to get it re-done.
Much thanks.

Most boxes have the same numbers.
One of the only ways to tell is with the top aluminum plate.
It has date codes, etc.
Even IF you change the box all you have to do is change the top aluminum piece & it will look correct.

Your steering box body has a date code on it, 44, which is the Julian date or day of the year. 44 would be mid February.
There is a book written by one of the Buick guys explaining the various date codes used by GM. More info here:

Your steering box can have the internal gears swapped to make it a fast ratio box. It makes a world of difference in how the car drives.
