Assembly line Spring ID tags - question (and potential project)
« on: January 10, 2025, 02:36:43 PM »
I'm working with a vendor to potentially reproduce the assembly line CORRECT spring ID tags (see '65 Assembly Manual charts 3-5.1 & 3.6-1). These spring tags for various other GM models have been reproduced, and I'm looking to make the correct ones for certain '65 Buicks.

Trying to make the following ID tags:

65 Skylark V8 coupe (no post, no a/c, standard suspension)
front springs: green tag, "388282 RD" (for the RH side) & "388281 RE" for the LH side.
rear springs: orange tag "9773999 PD"

65 Gran Sport no a/c
front springs: green tag, "391100 RY" RH side & "391101 RZ" LH side
rear: orange tag, "9777431 NB"

There is a good possibility that BOP had some of the same codes used. I do not have any originals that still have the legible tags. I know GS and skylark were easily recognized as different size springs in the front but the rears may be same. Probably the only way to know tag ID is to cross reference GS 442 GTO etc? The convertible rear may be a different ID than hardtop because I seem to remember some differences in the size of them also. If it looks like this is going to happen keep us posted because I would be interested and probably the Pontiac and Oldsmobile people would be also.
