« on: July 30, 2024, 09:40:44 AM »
hey all just wondering what finish the headlight buckets or cups are suppose to be . All the ones i have are different , some painted some look clear zinc . I'm guessing they are suppose to be a clear zinc or something equivalent ?

The buckets should be zinc dichromate plated. I think both Loren and Bob have some already plated.

I have also wondered that, John. I haven't had any plated though.

I'll check with Bob. I know I had a stack of them plated for him. Do you need two sets, John?

Chuck I do need 2 sets , but i did snag a NOS complete loaded  headlight assembly with mounting panel headlight buckets with T3 sealed beams . I'll try and post a picture of it , the headlight buckets on it do appear to have a different finish to them .

Plated definitely looks more detailed on the finished product. I have parted dozens of mid 60?s GM and I think they were a sourced part that came either plated or just black semi gloss like the core support. Both my original GS cars were originally black housings. I had some extra 65 Impala parts and they appear to be plated that almost looks galvanized after 60 years but is likely zinc.
