Found Buick in my home town
« on: June 20, 2024, 06:13:57 PM »
Hey Buick Fans,

Yesterday a mate of mine was at a marine shop and noticed a Buick in the shop next door.

I'm not sure if it's a 64 or 65 Special? either way we have another Buick Down-Under.

I'm planning to go to the shop today and get the owners contact details, who knows where it will end up?

A few guesses/ observations, it's got vintage Queensland registration plates so I'm guessing it's been registered here for a while (70's - 80's). It doesn't have a RHS side mirror, I'm guessing it hasn't been driven too much, I couldn't imagine driving a LHD vehicle in a RHD country with no RHS side mirror.

I will be back...
Marcus

That is a '64. Notice the difference in the front bumper. It dips down in the front center and the ends are higher than the '65 bumper. Consequently, the front fenders are different as is the core support.

Dear Marcus, Loren, and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

Yesterday a mate of mine was at a marine shop and noticed a Buick in the shop next door.

That's quite an amazing coincidence to find two Buicks of about the same vintage in Australia!  Indeed, I hope you manage to hook up with the owner of the 1964 Skylark.

I remember back in the 1980s noting that my wagon was increasingly the sole survivor.  Now I'm having the same experience with our 2000 Buick Century.  It is getting extremely rare to spot another Buick Century even if they have a reputation of being durable and reliable cars.

Thanks for sharing Marcus!

Hi Fellas,
I spoke at length to the mechanic working on the 64 Special, about the 64 and my car, and other cars.

The 64 is owned by a guy here who lives on the Gold Coast, (2 hours away from me) he has a friend in my hometown who has had the car in his shed for a few years and drives it around here.

He had the brakes replaced insisting on keeping drum brakes instead of a disk upgrade to keep it original, the owner has no intention of selling the 64. It has aluminum heads and inlet manifold.

I left my details for the owner to contact me, in the off chance he wanted to talk with another Buick owner. I would love the opportunity to be taken for a drive in it, I have still never been in a drivable Buick after 7 years of tinkering with mine.

I haven't heard from the owner at this stage, so I wait and will update if I ever get the chance to go for a drive in the 64.

I hope that indeed the owner of this car will reach out to you.  It would be really neat if indeed you could make a friend and eventually bring the two cars together for reunion!
