Dipstick seal available
« on: June 20, 2023, 09:51:03 AM »
No! it's not for that stupid neighbor or relative.
There is a replacement rubber seal available for the engine oil dipstick. That rubber bulb that is sometimes hard as a stone or even missing completely.
I came across this on evilbay and had need for one. So, I purchased and installed one on the dipstick of a 401. Very satisfied with the quality and fit of piece.
The seal is available from CARS.

I should have done a "How to" thingy for installing.

In the case of the oil dip stick I was replacing the seal on, the original was totally missing.
I used a flat punch to flatten the punch mark that holds the upper metal piece in place. Then removed the upper metal cap piece and slid the new seal onto the dip stick. Reinstalled the original upper metal cap and used a center punch to stamp a dimple in the dip stick to retain the upper metal cap in place. I did not file the original dimple off that retains the upper metal cap as I felt that no material should be removed to possibly weaken the dip stick.
