Dash surround paint?
« on: February 24, 2023, 09:45:28 AM »
Happy to see the board back online. I'd like to donate if I can figure out how.
When I got my 65 back the dash surround was broken in multiple pieces. Keith sold me a nice replacement and all it needs is to be painted light blue. What's the optimal way to accomplish this and make it look correct?

I have a 1965 Buick paint color chart from DuPont here....The light blue in the interior is the same code as the Astro Blue (code D) used on the exterior, DuPont #4630-L.
I know my 66 used the same blue for interior/exterior, So I used the same paint. I don't know 65's as well tho.

There are various sources online where you can buy a spray can of the code D blue paint.

Prep per Jim. Lacquer thinner could affect the plastic? Maybe scuff the surface with some fine steel wool for extra bite.

Real light on the thinner ,it will soften the plastic if not careful, just like to make sure  that the armorall or whatever is gone.Jim

Below is a cut and past from a corvette site.

“Any paint supplier/jobber. Ask for a wax and silicone remover. Wipe on and remove while wet, with silicone suspended in the liquid”.

I would also recommend an adhesion promoter.
