Shim for o-ring in thermostat housing/cross over manifold
« on: February 19, 2023, 08:00:09 PM »
I have spent a little time at parts and hardware stores looking for just the right spacer to tighten up on the o-ring we have discussed in my last post. As you can see by my pictures below I think I have a solution, but not sure. First off it is .109 thick according to my sheet metal gauge, so it might be too thick. Second it has a slightly larger OD than the machined part of the casting that I assume it will fit on when it is installed. I can file it a little more to decrease the OD giving the manifold more room to move to compensate for gasket thickness at the heads.

Please see pictures below and tell me what you think.

This spacer was a 16mm washer when purchased.

Thanks bunches,

Kurt

Dear Kurt and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

I don't know the answer to your question, but I want to thank you for taking the time to carefully document and photograph your proposed solution.  It helps everyone working on the nailhead engines and is interesting content to keep people coming back to 65GS.com!

Cheers, Edouard
