1965 A-Body hood ornament on eBay.
« on: December 09, 2022, 03:56:02 PM »
Dear mid-60s Buick parts hounds,

There is an unusual and somewhat puzzling listing for a 1965 A-Body hood ornament on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/354440311237

At least to my eyes, the photos don't quite match the description.  Nonetheless, it is a very nice looking hood ornament.  At the very least, it will be interesting to see how this auction unfolds.

Cheers, Edouard

Babe is an upstanding guy.  His parts are generally as advertised. His shop is less than an hour from me. The Verde Howitzer has several parts sourced from him.

I think you can bid with confidence in the products offered.

I looked in his Ebay store and found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/354418276795?hash=item5284f9b9bb:g:IGgAAOSwnXFgtnX~

It's obvious these are the inserts used to restore the hood ornament that's for sale. Note he differentiates these with the "tin foil" inserts.

I have no idea how they compare to originals. I see he accepts returns...

Dear Chuck and mid-60s Buick parts hounds,

Okay, I didn't know the seller personally and I thank you for your recommendation.

I looked in his Ebay store and found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/354418276795?hash=item5284f9b9bb:g:IGgAAOSwnXFgtnX~

Okay, but that is what puzzles me.  The colors on the Tri-Shield on the hood ornament for sale look a bit faded compared to the reproduction inserts.  I just didn't expect that for new inserts.

I guess the most likely explanation in this case is some difficulty in getting good pictures of the hood ornament.  As I've learned from painful experience, getting an accurate photo of any chrome object is really hard to do.

I have no idea how they compare to originals. I see he accepts returns...

Certainly, 1965 A-Body hood ornaments in good condition are extremely rare.  If somebody needs one, snag this one while you can!

Cheers, Edouard
