Moog no longer manufacturing Coil Springs !!

  I was at my local parts retailer this afternoon with another long list of parts needed for my GS hardtop. Everything was going OK until I gave him the Moog coil spring spring numbers. After punching those computer keys for what seemed like an eternity, he said that Moog no longer supplies coil springs ! I went home and called Jegs and got the same answer, the Tech on the phone said to contact Detroit Spring. I went on there website and keyed in my GSs information and was able to look at the chart and get an idea of what I need. I would like to go up 1 inch #MC1242 in the front (215/70s) and 2 inches #MC1637 in the rear since I plan on 225/60s. This should give the GS a slight rake. And with an upgraded suspension it should handle really good.
     Question: Since I have never purchased springs from Detroit Spring, is this a good spring combination for my needs ? Any advice is greatly appreciated before I lay down my $450.+   :help:

A lot of us got springs from Laura at Espo Springs & Things. Other sources might be Eaton or Coil Spring Specialties.

Sad to hear Moog is no longer making springs, they were my go-to source for years. Amazon still has some 6033's avail, they're the stock specs for 66 GS fronts. I used 6197's in the rear.

Definitely contact ESPO/ Springs n Things. Laura can spec out the right spring for custom ride height. Cost was usually under $100 a pair.

Walt what would you use for a rear spring on a 67 GS convertible? I see rock auto has some different ones. Would you use standard or heavy duty, and or fixed or variable rate. I was thinking of reg, variable rate. Do not want it to set to high, a could always use air bag to help if loaded.

  Laura called me back within the hour, I explained what I wanted to do and she gave me several options. I picked the spring combination that she recommended and they will be shipped out from PA this Thursday. The total cost was a little more than half of what Detroit Spring wanted. And the springs are all American made.
  Thanks Walt, I do appreciate all the help..  :thumbsup:     I will post a photo when I get all the suspension upgrades in.

Let’s hope this isn’t a trend that other manufacturers are going to follow! Seems like things are on back order, out of stock etc. Not something anyone wants to see or deal with! I work in a production setting and we are slowed not only from the personal perspective but also from component availability! Ugh! If we can’t produce it we can’t sell it! Losses for the company and no extra $$$ for me! Always have had good luck with ESPO ! I think I have a brand new set put away for my cars!

Bill, Laura at ESPO could give you a better recommendation than I could!

Rockauto shows the Moog 6321 and 5385. The 6321 is softer than the 6197 I use in my 66's and the 5383 is stiffer.
The nice thing about rear springs is you can add a spacer under it if you want to raise it an inch or three.

ESPO, (Eastern States Performance Outlet) Update 10/2/22

  Both sets of springs arrived yesterday afternoon. The invoice states that the springs cost $285.00 plus $38.05 shipping. Total cost was $323.05.  So I saved at least $176.95 from what Detroit spring was charging. The money saved will go towards other needed parts. Many thanks go out to Laura at ESPO for all the help.
    Also Thanks Walt & Jim for pointing me in the right direction
