One of the benefits of membership to the Buick Club of America is the monthly Bugle publication. A very excellent publication filled with articles, pictures and classifieds.
If you are not a member, here is a sample of what can be found in the Bugle.

Attached are two pdf files. They are the article from the June 2022 Buick Bugle. I want to thank the editor of the Bugle, Pete Phillips, for his permission to place this on our site.
Also want to thank the writers John Csordas, BCA#8929 and Dennis Manner, BCA#12350 for putting this article together. Photos by Dennis Manner.

Well here's how they got out of Buick City-
I purchased #17 and #24 PROTOTYPE/EXPERIMENTAL  engines about 16 years ago from older friend who had worked at Buick City  for 35 years.Of course GM would CRUSH-PROTOTYPE/X motors when done with them.
However one night him and some buddy's seen #17 motor with 2X4 factory cast iron intake by dumpster hooked up to front wheel drive tranny like Tornado  had in that time and had mock up radiator hooked up to it. Right next to it was #24 motor - it had VERY strange intake on it that sunk much lower then production intake. All parts had X followed by 7 digit # and a lot of part's were very strange because still developing. These motors that were by dumpster had tags on them to be destroyed and would have been put into dumpster in the morning. Well these 2 motors didn't make it to the dumpster that morning- they MYSTERIOUSLY came up missing.

2X4 -#17(RED) PROTOTYPE/X motor at my pole barn.
#24 -green painted up after purchasing from me.
When I had it - was rough looking with green paint over red paint.

skygsrivgs,  Now that's some cool history for us to learn. Have you ever run either of the motors?

No never tried to run Loren.
Living here in Flint,Michigan(where most of our Buicks were born)I come across cool things from older Buick workers throughout the years- couple of weeks ago picked up these 2 Buick awards from OLD friend- they were cast there at Buick City since they had their own foundry. The awards showed their start date to end date.
I will share a VERY STANGE coincidence- driving home that evening after having coffee with the old boys(70 to 80 years old)and after purchasing them I was on highway  and looked down  at the one and noticed the day he started work in 1943 was my birthday- January 5th

Again more cool history stuff.
I can see a topic devoted to just this kind of information.  Buick History from those that lived it.

VERY COOL INDEED !
A lot of the times in getting these old cars and or parts is THE STORY behind them . In the past I never really cared about the history of these old relics but in the past ten years Ive come to appreciate the history behind it all . Maybe its because i,m  aging a bit .  :crybaby2:

Dear skygsrivgs and 65GS.com faithful,

Well here's how they got out of Buick City-
. . . .

Thanks so much for sharing this interesting bit of history!  Very lucky indeed these historical engines escaped their fate and are still with us.

Cheers, Edouard
