Looking for 65GS - Nice original or restored
« on: September 30, 2021, 07:33:03 PM »
Seems a little strange to be posting for a 65GS on a forum focused on 65GS's, but what the heck.  Wanting to find an original 65GS non-post car with numbers matching engine.  Either a complete nice driving survivor or a restored car.  I've done a lot of rust repair on cars in the past and would like to avoid that if possible - too many other fun things to do!  Always wanted a 65 car as that is the year I was born.  Love the Buick GS's - they have great lines and not so common as the other GM products of that year.  Thanks!

Thanks Jim.  That one is only about 4-5 hours away from me.  I love the originality of it, but I did see some additional pics of the body, quarters, and trunk.  It's definitely a bit rougher than the pics in the ad make it look.   I should probably get down there and see it, but it seems like all the money for the condition it is in and really hoping to find one like that but a bit cleaner.  I learned lessons on earlier projects that its best to find one with a really clean body and pay the extra $.  I did see one that looked like it was perfect on Cars-on-line, but the motor had been bored 0.125 over (401 to 425) which caused me some concern about whether the #'s matching engine will have issues down the road.  Thanks so much for the lead!

Hi,

No problem, that one was fresh in my Grey matter, lol

I have heard of people over boring a 401 to a 425, but hopefully they sonic checked the block, worst case it always could be sleeved to save a numbers matching block, in the future.  You might want to check what information they have on the engine build if the rest is to you're liking, clean 65's are hard to find, usually the window channels front and back windows always need some work.

Best of luck with your search,
Jim
