Radiator overflow hose CLIP?
« on: June 14, 2021, 04:57:05 PM »
For the 65, was there some sort of clip or strap used to keep the radiator overflow hose attached to the core support?

Part number research (Group 1.240):
64-65 580659 - I believe this would be for DOWN flow radiators only, and I think this clip attaches directly to the radiator
66 1351261 --> 570204 - I believe this is for CROSS flow radiators. Is this clip actually a plastic strap used for wiring? The superseded number comes back as a wiring strap? Or does this clip on to the tank itself between the tank and the fins? See this link:   https://www.chevelles.com/threads/radiator-overflow-hose-clip.952329/#lg=thread-952329&slide=1

I'm confused  :dontknow:

So, what, if anything, have you seen on original cars? There HAS to be something that was used.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Dan,

Buick used a metal clip that hooked to the side of the radiator. I've had a couple on original radiators.

Chuck & Loren - thank you for the replies.

I've searched the part number books and online - no other GM products besides Buick used them. This is the best I've been able to come up with: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133688570695

Chuck - how close do the 66/67 GTO clips look?

Do you have a picture of them installed?

The GTO parts look really similar.  This part clips into the bottom hole on the side of the core support along the side of the radiator.  Picture attached.

Thanks, Chuck.

2 more questions -

Are the clips originally green (like the inner fender splash shield clips) or black?

For installation - the clip “finger” goes through the hole and that is it as far as attachment? In other words the other angled end doesn’t attach or press up against anything?

The one that Loren sent to me was originally black.  And the splash shield clips that came off our GS parts car were black also.

Yes, the small finger goes through the hole.  That secures it to the core support.

PS:  The only green clip I found was on the air conditioned cars that holds the two tubes together coming out of the evaporator.  Maybe difference by plant???  :dontknow:

Are we sure these are black? I'm only skeptical because the reproduction clips I've seen are green.

Dan, are you asking about the radiator overflow clip or the splash shield clips?

Splash shield clips - I have always thought they were a deep deep green color as some of the repros are sold.  Anyone else have an opinion?

And are we confident the radiator overflow clips are black?

THANKS!
