Centerlink and lower ball joints
« on: June 02, 2021, 11:57:09 AM »
I need to replace both lower ball joints and the center link in my 65 GS... I want to avoid the buying the cheap offshore trash parts. Anybody replace these parts in their cars that are happy with the manufacturer's quality and usability??? I'm thinking Moog, TRW, etc. but even these may be manufactured offshore for all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance'
Len

I second getting parts from ESPO.  Mine were McQuay-Norris, I believe manufactured in Mexico, but still good quality.

My centerlink is RareParts 25795.  I bought it from AutoZone on sale.  Check around for best pricing.

It's a gamble these days. Moog, TRW, McQuay Norris no longer offer the center link.
When I rebuilt my red 66 back around 2009, Southwest Speed was one of the only suppliers of the centerlink. They cater to the race crowd, figured it should hold up. I bought one and was pleased with the overall quality.

Lately there are many more options avail on eBay from relatively unknown manufacturers, and prices have dropped significantly.
Holley offers a 'Proforged' line of parts. Their page does hype the quality of them, but I can't say if they are better/worse than other offerings. At least it's a known name and price is comparable.

It's avail from suppliers such as Summit, Jegs, Amazon, etc.

For ball joints and what not, I still buy Moog. Rockauto is a good place to start.

I used the Proforged center link on my 64 Skylark. (I used all the larger 65 GS parts on the front end)

It appeared to be a quality part, and I have had no trouble, and i DRIVE my car (like I'm the star of a Live PD chase)

Ok, I settled on the Proforged center link and Moog lower ball joints. Rock Auto had the best pricing on the ball joints @ $49.35 for two Moog lower ball joints delivered to my door. The Proforged center link delivered to my door was $101.02. I suppose I could have done better on the center link but I'm trying to avoid a no name crap shoot situation and Proforged at least has some better quality attributes in my opinion.

Thank's to all for your replies and help....

Leonard
