Buick Club of America sticker - anybody know its history?
« on: May 03, 2020, 04:09:07 PM »
Dear mid-60s Buick owners with a taste for memorabilia,

Not a lot of Buick nuts in my home town, so when I was at Orinda Classic Car Center the manager has a present for me - this sticker:

It came in a large collection of car memorabilia and according to the manager, this sticker had my name all over it.  Does anybody know anything about this Buick Club of America campaign to keep leaded gas available?   As I recalled, California banned the sale of leaded gasoline starting January 1, 1992.  I filled up Biquette one last time with leaded late December 1991 and remember a feeling of sadness and uncertainty about Biquette's future at the time.  Fortunately, she has been doing fine on unleaded gas for almost 30 years!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Wow! Thats pretty late. In Chicago I bought a new 1985 3/4 ton Suburban that ran on leaded gas. No Cat's, dual exhaust and no tank restrictor. The half tons had all the no-lead equipment but the 3/4T was still considered "commercial". That was the last year. I think it was upped to 1 ton's for the next year and then the game was over.   Bill

As it turns out, you should have been able to get leaded gas for your truck until 1996 according to this Wikipedia article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraethyllead

There are still countries in the world that have leaded gas - believe it or not!

Hi Bill & Edouard, went by the gas station today to fill up my GMC . It was $2.25 a gallon here in NYC. That's great for this area.

Also That BCA decal must have been a local BCA Chapter project because I really don't remember ever seeing one or seeing it advertised in the (Bugle) national newsletter. And I joined in 1984. Maybe one of our other members can help us out.
