What size nut (and thread size) are correct for the nuts that go on the 2 dash pad mounting studs (passenger side) ?

Flange nuts, correct?

Yes, flanged Palnuts.  I believe they are these: https://www.amkproducts.com/product/b-13381-50/

The studs have ordinary threads - so no flanged palnuts?

Me thinks they are 1/4-20 machine nuts with a washer.

Sorry for the confusion.  I got the Palnut reference from a fastener database.  I'm sure the 1/4-20 is correct.  Not home to confirm with actual hardware...

Dan

I think they are smaller than 1/4” - like # 12 or # 10. Can anyone confirm?

I seem to recall the '72 took a 7/16 (possibly 3/8)  nut driver to remove the 2 nuts. Had to pull the glove box liner out first.   Bill

Hi Bill - 1/4, # 10 , #12, etc. refers to the diameter of the stud side, not necessarily the head size of the nut... I think these nuts are going to be either # 10 or #12, not 1/4....

So, I went to my untouched 65 Skylark survivor to get to the bottom of this. Chuck - they ARE pal nuts.

#8 - 32 pal nuts. 11/32 hex size.

I have some on order and will have them available to everyone. Thanks everyone.

The best I can do for my '72... just sayin'  ;-))   I do remember the nuts had free rolling washers attached. They spun down finger tight and then snugged with a nit driver.       Bill

Closing the loop on these dash pad nuts. Correct mounting nuts are shown in the attached pictures.

I have some of these factory correct mounting nuts available. See here: http://65gs.com/board/index.php?topic=4590
