Report from eastern Pa....
Well, we just had our first frost on Friday after a cold front blew in on Thursday night with strong storms.
This weekend featured cool fall temps for the last shows of the season.
One of my favorite shows is the Vargo Dragway reunion. Vargo had a short life from 1960-1969. I wasn't there back in the day, but I've been attending the reunion shows over the past 20 years. It features a bunch of old race cars in addition to some rat rods and the usual musclecars, somewhere around 500 cars total, lined up on the old drag strip and surrounding grassy areas. Turnout was a bit lower due to the wet grounds. I had the only GS there.
Here's my 66 GS next to some friends cars.... the Dukes tribute and a more obscure 'White Lightning' car they built this past year, both are of extreme quality.

Yeah... should be 45F here, but got the snow blower going at 0700hrs @ 15F. I rigged up a double sided cab and ran a 1-1/2" of PVC off the engine for a cab heater! Really needed it for a de-frugilator.  I can get out there in a T shirt, basically. Only thing is ya gotta wear snow sandals LOL...   ws

CA drought means cold further east. (Re: Winter it's here!)

Dear Milton, Bill, and mid-60s Buick caregivers in frigid parts of the country,

Unfortunately, there is a curious connection between what is looking like drought in California and an unusually cold start to winter in the Midwest.  We have a ridge of high pressure that is forcing storms way to our north.  As those storms move north, they are interacting with arctic air.  As a result, when the go back into lower latitudes they are much colder than if they has passed through California first and brought us some rain.  So far we aren't expecting any rain until the end of the month and that's being optimistic.  The cold may continue in your neck of the woods.

Cheers, Edouard

Just watching the news, unusual low temps are expected for the next few weeks. So far we have an extra 5 feet of water in the lake, and now with extra early snow and probably a frozen lake prevention evap, then a thaw cycle in the spring will no doubt give us an extra foot in the lake. Locally, there's houses sliding into the water, but thats seems pretty normal in Cali with mudslides etc.  Now, doing my due diligence, water levels in Lake Baikal (Siberia) are at an all time low. Ya hafta wonder what gives ?

Is this all part of the El Ni?o and La Ni?a thing??  Bill

Can't blame Niño or La Niña (Re: Winter it's here!)

Dear Bill and mid-60s Buick caregivers who keep a watchful eye on the weather,

. . . .

Is this all part of the El Ni?o and La Ni?a thing??  Bill

Here in California, we are ever vigilant for any signs of drought.  The last couple of winters we had either El Niño or La Niña and that produced normal to above normal rainfall.  This is the first year in a while were they are reporting "normal" sea surface temperatures.  This webpage is where the National Weather Service reports their current data and forecasts:

https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/enso_advisory/ensodisc.shtml

Alas, I had noticed that the last time things were "normal," we had drought conditions and we seem to headed in the same direction.  However, the National Weather Service seems to have botched their winter outlooks at least according to what we have seen so far.  Here is their press release for this winter:

https://www.noaa.gov/media-release/winter-outlook-warmer-than-average-for-many-wetter-in-north

At the moment, the claim of a warmer winter doesn't seem to be measuring up to scrutiny.

Oh well, . . . . . . . Edouard

Dear Jon, Dan, and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

Trying to think spring! Lol It was 53 here the other day! Backed Beauty out on driveway and blew some storage dust off!

Thanks for sharing the pic!!    The weather has dried out here in Northern California, but the lunatic drivers are still out in force in between Christmas and New Years.  I'm hoping to get my trusty wagon out soon, but keeping her safe remains priority #1.

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:
