tips on removing vinyl top trim
« on: July 20, 2019, 02:27:17 AM »
I have a 65 GS HT parts car that I need to remove the vinyl top trim. It is in nice condition so I don't want to damage it when I take it off but I am not sure how to go about it. Any body have any tips?
    Thanks, Mike

Mike,
The two side pieces need to be removed first. They are held on with clips that push in. There may be a clip on the corner piece that has a threaded stud with a nut. Not recalling for sure though. The piece that goes across the back is held on with threaded clips with nuts. You will need to get into the trunk to get to those. There are holes in the inner panel to access the nuts.
The side pieces are kind of a pain to get the push in clips to come out.

Thanks Loren, I will give it my best shot and be careful not to kink anything in the process.

BuckeyeBuicks,

How did the trim come off?  We're you able to save any side clips?  If so, any chance  you could post a pic here?

There's got to be something out there that will work.

Thanks,

Frank

If I remember correctly, when I removed the side trim I went inside and removed the interior lights and sail panel which gave me access to the clips or nuts on the side trim. Anyone else try this or has a parts car to check it out?
