ISO Rear deck trim clips for 1964-65 Convertible

Are there clips used to hold this trim in place, or is it anchored by the side trim corners and "tension"?

I want to be sure and if I can, use the clips, before I "pinch" the trim to make it tighter fit.

It is a bit loose and "walks" out of the corner and from the tension pulling on it with the boot clips.

Yes there are special specific trim clips used on the 64-65 convertible! I will post a picture of them! There is just two small screws used in the very corners and  two screws used on the side pieces! They are available in repo!

I ordered a set of the clips. (Looked at the links and saw one each or a set of 16)

How do they attach?

Install clips to the trim and then install the trim.
or
Install the clips on the pinchweld then install the trim.

And correct orientation of the clips, since it looks like I could install them four ways, and all five of them, incorrectly.

I just got home and looked at the trim and the clips.

Appears the clips slide inside the channel of the trim with the  extended "fingers" at the leading edge of the trim so the two little "teeth" catch the bottom side of the body pinchweld.

And I am guessing I need at least two on each of the side mouldings to hold them in place and then lock all three (left and right side and the center bow) together.

Can't remember how many I took off,but I know I used about 12 of them putting it back together. Three on each side and six or seven on the rear. They were spaced about six inches apart. You can't really overdue it by putting on more than you took off. They clip in chrome first as you mentioned and little tab pushes on edge snugly after you get them all started straight. If you can get your hands on a roll of butyl tape like they used to install old windshields,you can put it on the edge before installing the chrome to create a factory water edge that was originally under the trim.

I pulled the side trim off and that is what I figured. Three spaced on each side, one close to the corner to help keep it tight, and the screw to hold it near the front.

And I'll use about eight along the back.

Since I have the trim off, I am going to run them through the buffing wheel.
I already did almost all the other trim on the car when I had it all off, except these pieces.

And while I had the side piices, I figured out how the clips go on.

The "fingers" go to the "outside" edge of the trim, and the "teeth" grab the underside of the pinch weld on the car and the trim is "pushed" in place.

I do appreciate everyone's help. I lost one boot (brand new) and the trim came loose a few times when running down the highway, so I figured I needed to do something to make it right.



Hate zipping down the road worrying about being a "Buick Parts Distributor".
