Not so much of a how to but more of the reason why.
Well I have been having a issues with my drivers door not latching. Today I swapped it out to find my original one had one of the return springs had broke. Not sure if anyone is rebuilding these or remanfacturing, as the unit is rivited together.
One tip is to remove the inner door latch and remove the rod with the latch mechanism, as clipping it back together inside the door is difficult.
