Seat belt retractor cover installation
« on: April 21, 2019, 02:17:07 PM »
Happy Easter everyone.
I bought a new set of seat belt retractor covers, and painted them Firethorn Red.
They look great and I was anxious to install them.
Before I break something, I would like to ask if someone would tell me the method to install the new covers.
Thank you!!

First remove the whole retractor/belt assembly from the car.  Next you have to take the plastic cover loose from the spring on the belt shaft and carefully un-wind it by rotating it.  Count the number of turns it takes to un-wind it.  Once un-wound, remove the spring, then pull the belt all the way out.  Remove the metal clip holding the belt to the belt shaft.  Remove the belt, swap out the plastic cover, then re-install belt onto shaft.  Re-install the spring and wind it back the same number of turns that it took to unwind it.  Secure the spring and re-install the assembly into the car.

You may also give this a try, assuming the seat belt retractor is bolted to the floor and the original cover is removed.

Pull the belt out about six inches.  Now fold the belt buckle back over the strap at a 45 degree angle as you would fold a flag. With a little manipulation the buckle will now fit through the cover.  Then snap the cover in place.

The key here is, the buckle is not square but rectangular in shape.

Best of luck.
