Dear Brian and 65GS.com members who stroll down memory lane,

Brackets on a 66 Skylark

While that wasn't your intention, this picture brought back memories of my Dad and I working on my trusty wagon when I was teenager.  So thanks for the memories!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Mark, not for sale, will put it back on my 65 when I repair the heater and put new hoses on. I will look on my other 65 manifolds and see if they have one and I would sell it. I have never seen another, and never seen a rear one. Do you want to sell one of the rear ones? Looking at the front one in the assembly manual mine looks different? Thanks Bill.

I think we should combine efforts (and brackets) and speak to Mike Garrison (Mr. Buick) about reproducing these (like the hood ornament spacers, grill emblem brackets & the oil pan fuel line clips).

Heres another question concerning those hose brackets . Will they work on the dual quad intake cars ? I realize they didn't come factory with dual quads but will they transfer over ?

John,

I was wondering the same thing and checked on my engine.  The AC compressor bracket on my engine bolts to the spot on the front of the intake manifold where I'm sure the flat bracket would mount on the non-AC engine.  And the heater hoses just fit snugly underneath it.  The smaller hose on the bottom and the larger on top.

However, there is no bolt hole at the rear of the intake manifold to fasten the rear bracket.  Since the coil is not mounted in the same place on the 2x4 intake, there are no bolt bosses there.  So I conclude that there is no rear bracket on the 2x4 engine.

Pictures attached.  If anyone has an original 2x4 setup in a big car (since the GS didn't get the 2x4 from the factory), pictures would confirm the correct approach.

Thanks Guys for posting those photos of the bracket, I may have them not knowing what they were for, I will try to over to the garage this weekend and go thru the bins of parts from the parted out Buick's. If i have some, I will let you know. Were those brackets only on AC Buick's ? :icon_scratch:

Tony,

It appears the flat front bracket was only on the non-AC engines.  It seems the AC compressor bracket on the AC engines replaces the flat bracket.  See pictures above.

I went over to the garage and checked thru the boxes of brackets marked 401-425 and i found 1 set,  :idea1: They are very basic and would not be hard to duplicate once the pattern is made, handcrafting takes time but I will attempt to make another set by hand as soon as i complete the special project that I'm doing now.

Had some time this week to play around with those heater hose brackets. I made a second set for my GS project. #1) I first made a pattern on some thin white cardboard so i could transfer the image on to some sheet steel. In photo #2) you can see the rough cut of both pieces. I used a dremmel type tool with carbide blade to make the straight cuts. For the hole i used my drill press. #3) The rest of the work was done by hand using files, small vice, 8 oz hammer, 50lb anvil , long nose pliers, MAAP gas, 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper, 1/2inch steel bar, then they took a trip into the blasting cabinet. When they came out they received 3 coats of Buick green engine paint...
I kept track of the time since the work was performed over a 3 day period. Total time was just a little over 6 hours.  This is not a cost effective way of making these. I just wanted to show with some time & effort it can be done. Also in photo #3 the original brackets are to the left of the repros..
