Brackets
« on: January 03, 2019, 06:22:24 AM »
I guess I am still on the crusade for a pair of 1967 GS 400 frame brackets (front cross member) for my 1964 Special / 455 conversion. I am also in DIRE NEED of a 455 4 speed flywheel. Is it really a Unicorn with unobtanium horseshoes?? The 400 long shaft turbo is up for adoption CHEAP. Its a running take out.

I am also in need of both L&R front fender and drivers door spears and ventiports fort the 1964 Special DeLuxe. The V-ports are separate from the spears on two studs each and the Special spear is 3/4"  (.760" at the door end) and 55" long.  ws

TA has new engine frame mounts. They offer Alluminum or steel.

I had a set of the fender ports...... I had them for sale for years......finally sold over last summer.

you don't want OEM 67 frame pads because then you're forced to use OEM 67 motor mounts which are nearly unobtainable. get the TA frame pads and use readily available regular 455 motor mounts.

The TA mounts for 64/7, it was stated they are taller this reduces the air cleaner to hood distance, and on at least 67 that is a problem. Does anyone know if they locate the engine in the same place as the OEM 67 mount? Can the OEM 67 frame mount be modified to accept the later 455 motor mount or can the later engine mount be modified to fit the 67 OEM frame mount? Another option if you have original 67 motor mounts is to send them to get re-mfg. Thanks Bill.

Thanks for the input guys! Sorry I had a hard time figuring out the notification section on 65gs. I havent done anything with mounts or flywheel just yet. Dumb motor has been giving me fits getting parts lined up and also shopping for a couch for the wife. Up here, a trip to the big city takes the wind outa the whole day, but we have fun together so its all good! Tomorrow, its a full frontal attack.

Gotta get my block prepped for the shop job. Its disgusting enough that Id be embarrassed taking it in to get cleaned!   ws

That wheel from T/A is probably from an outfit in Tenn. that seems to make them for all 3 distributors... anywhere from 285.00 to 350.00 for a new one. Not too many originals left, and very 455 Buick specific!  ws

Spoke with T/A this morning and ordered the two frame pads, a bolt set for the same, and a front timing cover neoprene seal. The block is going in for service tomorrow I hope. Spent today scraping the entire block and heads clean, then cleaning and tapping every single hole and giving them a blow job to ensure they are clean before the shop hot tanks it. I hate struggling with dirty threads! The totals from T/A was 125.00 plus some shipping. Itll all be here Thursday.

Spoke with LSC performance who makes the flywheels for T/A. They are at 295.00 for a billet wheel plus the 35 lbs for the truck. Its all coming together a little at a time.  ws
