Three articles from Rob Siegel on eliminating unwanted noise
« on: October 11, 2018, 05:34:35 PM »
Dear mid-60s Buick owners who appreciate a quiet ride,

Somehow I missed two articles by Rob Siegel on eliminating some sources of sounds that he refers to as clunks and rattles.  Here is part-1:

https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2018/01/22/de-clunking-a-car

Here is the second episode in the series:

https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2018/01/29/siegel-how-to-remove-rattles-your-car-part-2

There is nothing amazing here, but Rob does a good job of laying out a strategy to eliminate annoying sounds systematically.  This is a situation were being methodical will ultimately be more effective.

More recently, Rob has an article on getting rid of Getting rid of rumbles, vibrations, and whines:

Once more nothing earth-shattering, but definitely conservative advice that will allow you efficiently identify a problem.  As Rob points out in the first article: it is one thing for a classic car to look nice, but to really enjoy driving the car, it needs to be mechanically tight as well.  What's the point of turning on the car radio if you can hardly hear it!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

Michael

The first 60 years were spent on surviving. The second 60 are gonna be spent on fun!

Dear Michael and mid-60s Buick owners who turn up their stereos,

4 pairs of 6x9s and turn it up to 11.

*Sniff*, alas the volume control knob on Biquette's Custom Autosound 630 isn't working properly.  I might have broken it when I modified it to use the OEM Buick knobs or it might be a design flaw.  The aftermarket stereo in our 2000 Buick Century also doesn't work as you would expect.  I haven't had time to look into this, but at the moment I can't just turn off the volume when the headers get a little loud.  Definitely something of a bummer. . . . .

Oh well, Edouard
