When I look at the condition of that car for $7000, I keep kicking myself for not buying the one I looked at last summer.
I was suspicious of hidden issues, but it would still have been a good car for the money!

Don't kick yourself too hard David!
I can't see this one being worth the asking price. Maybe $4000 tops, but not $7000. :violent1:
It does have some strong points....could be rust free, but it's difficult to judge the condition of the chrome.
The AC is a nice option, but it's missing parts. and 4 note horns!
I do like the color, that's one of my favorites. Rare too.
But I wonder what the deal is with the wrong front fender trim?.
It's not going anywhere soon at that price!

This car is going to be around along time.I don't see it getting one bid.Walt,I think your being very generous at 4,000. Don't know if it's a rust bucket, diamond in the ruff or a parts car from the pictures as you stated in a earlier post. Just my .02        Tom

Still kicking myself.  Hard to find a decent car with a good body, let alone a 4 speed, and harder to find one that I can afford to pick up and start working on.
It will be easier next time if I can scrape together the cash without selling my only other fun car.
My 64 will be fun when it's done and sporting a nailhead, but I still have to get my hands on a 65 Gran Sport.
You know how it is, you make up your mind what you want and you are not satisfied until you get what you are after.

My thoughts on this one..    :confused4:

I'll agree that the blue is a rare color and it's actually one of my favorites however with those Skylark fenders on there, this leads me to believe that either this is a repaint in which we neither know what is under the paint or if this is the original color.  The fact that those fenders are on there could mean that the originals were rusted out or that they were replaced due to collision or maybe even that this car is actually a Skylark with GS added parts (who knows).

Look at all the other parts that it would take to make this car right (rims, fender vents, etc).  I like the prices he shows for GS's however we all know that those are insurance or dealer prices and that those all assume that the car is complete but in various conditions.  If I could get $35k for each of my cars, they'd all be gone (including the convertible) and I'd simply go out and buy more and invest the extra cash into some bonds.   :evil5:

The $55k he's talking about I assume was for the "Then & Now" convertible that went through Barrett Jackson a couple of years ago.  That was when the market was at a high level and during a premium auction with many buyer with cash.  This has obviously changed since then (not that it won't come back someday) and the car in question was a fully restored low mileage convertible.   http://65gs.com/GS_Gallery2/thumbnaere s.php?album=4&page=7

There is an old saying about buying cars and houses as investments "Find needy sellers and not needy purchases".

I think that we can all agree that for this one, this is a pretty needy car at that price and someone would really need to buy it with their heart to make any sense anywhere near that price.

Later,

Chris

Been out of touch for a few days. Just got back from a trip to MN  to take the in-laws back home and see our son.
Where is the lower roof trim and holes for same. Appears to be a lot of rust at both lower corners of rear window as well as the top of drivers rear quarter midway in trunck opening. Need to look at this one very carefully.

At $3500 if it were close I would probably want to look at it.  I would probably have someone with some restoration experience look it over with me too.
It needs a lot of hard to come by sheet metal, but at $3500 I would say that curiosity would get the better of me.
It needs so much that it might be a good candidate for feeling a little free with the process of bringing it back.  More of a 65 GS street rod.

Still not enough detailed pictures in the ad.I would bid as if I were buying a parts car.Remember the one a couple weeks ago on Craigslist for 3,500 in Ohio?I went and looked and forgot my camera.Made him a offer of 1,000 cause it was a parts car.  Tom

It's back. Now $1,500 and no reserve. I did ask for a picture of the firewall tag last time through but even though the seller responded they did not provide a picture.

Wow!!  Looking more like it now.  I sure wish this car was a lot closer to me.
Hard to buy a car you can't check out, and hard to justify the shipping of a $1500 car 1100 miles.

At least it is now more reasonable for a starting bid and no reserve.
