4 speed transmission crossmember
«
on:
July 21, 2018, 09:38:31 AM »
I have boxed the frame, on my 65 Skylark.
I am looking for a GS, or convertible, 4 speed crossmember.
Even some pictures would be helpful. I may be able to retrofit the original crossmember, if I cant find one.
Thank you,
David

I might be uninformed, but I thought that the crossmembers were the same for auto and manual transmissions. I'm sure there are others here that can correct me.....

.....
What did you box the frame with? The original reinforcements from a convertible or GS, or something custom?
The transmission crossmember mounts are on the frame reinforcements. In this pic you can see the standard vs vert/GS mount.

The boxing kit came from ABC performance.
I ended up, cutting the ends off the original crossmember.
I welded in angle iron for it to sit on.
When I get the engine and transmission on the frame, I will drill and bolt the crossmember to the angle iron.

if you boxed it yourself..then a factory convert will be too short..
just cut the ends off of the hardtop frame and drill new holes..who cares if they are 2 inches apart or 4...the factory one necks down on the ends..you have mechanical aptitude if you can box the frame...so..why not modify the hardtop cross member....
