Dear mid-60s Buick owners who routinely cruise eBay,

This afternoon I came across this listing for a "1964 - 1967 Buick Skylark 8 Circuit Wire Harness".

I'm really not sure what this is.  Is it a modern replacement for the fuse box or an extension providing additional circuits?   :icon_scratch:

Could somebody straighten me out on this curious item?

Yes, a replacement for the major circuits, using spade-style fuses. My wiring is still in really good condition. To me, it's the engine harness that goes.
You could still replace the box without the wiring if it's rusted.

That is a universal type harness made to fit the A-body cars.  The fuse box will mount in the factory location, then everything else is just long individual wires that you have to route and terminate your self.  Intended for a custom car build where everything under the dash is being updated to modern.  Not for a stock replacement.

Some guy named "Loren" built my front 2 harnesses to allow me to go from the 1964 Skylark 300/ST300 to the Nailhead, manual tranny and quite a few mods for relays.

I heard he runs a car forum, something to do with 1965 Buick Gran Sports...  :evil6:

I recommend that route over any "repop" or service that claims "custom".

Everything done was perfect fit, match and function and well worth every penny.

Thanks guys!  What threw me for a loop was that this box "only has 8 circuits."  To they mean it provides you with 8 additional circuits in addition to the normal compliment of circuits for a 1964-67 GM A-body?  Like everything else in this hobby, there are different strokes for different folks.  I'm perfectly happy with the old glass fuses, but we had somebody ask if a modern fuse box replacement existed for your Buicks.  At the time I remembered that there was such a thing, but couldn't find it.  Hopefully if the question comes up again, someone will be able to relocate this item.  After all, it is better to lose an original fuse box if it still saves the Buick!  :angel4:

That "box" has ten circuits, either parallel or series use. Eight of them are "fuse" protected, and the other two may or may not be "branched" from the eight protected, and might be non-fused.

One could use that box, but you would need to "build" the firewall connector pinning to the two firewall connectors as well as dash termination and rear harness/intermediate (front to rear/body cable) connectivity.

As was earlier mentioned, it is good for a "custom" build, or to replace a box that may have been damaged or discarded, but a lot of extra work to build a "OEM" patterned harness starting with that.

But, if it is all you could get, it is better than holding a spool of wire in one, a handful of terminals in the other and staring at a wiring diagram. :tard:
