Correct front turn signal lens screws? AMK
« on: March 31, 2018, 09:55:28 PM »
Does anyone know the correct size, thread, length, etc. for the front turn signal screws? These are the screws that go through the front turn signal lenses.

Are they listed on this AMK webpage? See, for example the screws starting at B-10403

Hi Dan,

The front lens screws are (by AMK measuring rules) 8-32 x 1 1/8 oval head machine screws.  See picture below.  They appear to be a sort of matte finish stainless material.

AMK has a few options, but only one that I think will work well.  On this AMK page:  https://www.amkproducts.com/bulk2.asp?code=7325&title=Machine+Screws+-+Oval+Head

The 8-32 x 1 1/8" screw they have is B-11685 in Chrome/Stainless.  And in the catalog is says it's for 71-72 Chevelle parking lights.  Only problem is the head is too small at .26" OD.  The screws we need have a .31 OD head.  AMK has these in both 1" and 1 1/4" lengths, but not 1 1/8".  I did a trial assembly using new lenses and gaskets and found the originals allow about 1/8" of surplus length for starting to engage the threads.  So I think the 1" length might be a bit hard to get started.  While the 1 1/4" length is longer, it has a pointed end, so I think the actual length of the threads will be about the same as on the original with a flat end.  So, I'd recommend AMK B-13688 on page 121 of the catalog.  The screws will be a bit shinier than the originals, but they are attaching chrome plated bezels, so I think they'll look just fine.

Hope this helps; good luck!

Chuck

Hi Chuck -

Thanks for the reply! I did some more research with these screws, and I also took a look at my NOS turn signal assembly - I have different results.  I will post my findings soon.  Stay tuned!

I was wrong!

An incorrect GM part number took me on a wild goose chase.  I got the Special and Skylark part numbers confused! I checked my NOS Skylark assembly (I originally checked my NOS Special assembly) - and your post above is spot on!  Thank you!

A couple more fastener questions -

Turn signal housing nuts (with built in washer (flange nut?) - mounts front turn signal housing to car)
Hood ornament speed nuts
Hood letter speed nuts
Reverse lens screws (reverse lenses to reverse lamp housing - goes through the reverse lens itself)

Thanks!

Hey Dan,

Here's some info I have on the other fasteners you are questioning:

Turn signal housing nuts (with built in washer (flange nut?) - mounts front turn signal housing to car) AMK B-12887
Hood ornament speed nuts AMK B-13271 (same used for ventiports and fat bird emblems to fenders)
Hood letter speed nuts AMK B-12971
Reverse lens screws (reverse lenses to reverse lamp housing - goes through the reverse lens itself) AMK B-13295
