Four post and two post lifts!?
« on: March 30, 2018, 08:45:47 PM »
Which brands and sizes do any of you guys have? Also about what ceiling height are you at? l would probably be getting a four post for my 65's mostly for extra space and for working underneath! For storage I would put the convertible on top so if I had to put a cut out in the ceiling for the windshield when it is raised up and a car underneath that would be great! Then I wouldn't need a super tail garage! Thanks for sharing!

I have a 4 post, works perfect.  Built a pocket in the ceiling and raised it 12 inches.   Had to move garage door motor,  made it a side mount.  Also raised the garage door track.   I park a car underneath so now I have a 3-car garage.

My lift is a 10,000 Lb Rotary asymmetric lift. The back half of my garage the ceiling height is 12' 4". My son has a 10,000 Rotary Asymmetric/symmetric lift (Same as the Challenger lift) Half his garage was built with a cathedral ceiling.I don't know the actual ceiling dimensions though. We store cars regulary under both lifts.

I like the two post mainly for just normal maintenance. If you have to drop out a rear or a tranny the four post is not nearly as handy. Most two posts are a legitimate 7,000 lb or better rating and can be used for long term storage as long as your cement is thick enough for the proper anchors. My 65 literally sat up there for several months while I was trying to get other things done. The cheaper Chinese hoists ($1800 delivered to your door) seem to work quite well, but they are often a 7,000 lb hoist marketed at 10,000 lb. We put one in my dads garage and it works great for occasional use. If you are literally using this every week I would go with Rotary, bend pack,challenger,aamco,etc....marketed in the U.S.

8,000 Lbs Direct lift.   Does not need to be bolted to the ground, came with removable wheels so you can roll it around.

Hi,

My buddy has a 4 post that is on wheels, so he can roll it outside to wash the undercarriage of his cars. Not sure on the specs or brand. Good for basic maintenance, my other buddy has a 2 post and I have used it for a few clutch and transmission jobs over the years

With that in mind a 4 post is easier to get a vehicle on safely, a 2 post allows for easier acess to the undercarriage.

Just some things to keep in mind for your decision, you can do everything on a 4 post you can do on a 2 post just more obstacles to bang your head on.

Regards,
Jim

I just got a Bendpak 2-post asymmetric lift.  I have only used it once, but seems like it is going to work out great.

I've been looking at the AutoStacker, a BendPak product, as I only have 9'2" ceilings in my garage... I think my ceilings are too low for anything.
