Gran Sport flywheel question
« on: March 01, 2018, 05:37:17 PM »

Now that I have jumped in head first into the '65 GS post car project and decided to put it back to a manual tranny as it was originally.

I have a question about aftermarket flywheels.

First off, does anyone have experience with the ones from Russ Martin or  Bendtsen's.

I haven't looked too much for an original, but imagine not too many laying around.  Oh, the NOS one on eBay at $699 is out of the question.  :protest:

I have the billet one from TA in my GS.  Bolted right up, no issues.  Cost a boat load though.

Thanks  for the input on this.  Still gathering a couple of the parts, but getting there.  Gotta love a project.   :laughing7:
I hadn't looked at the TA one.  Cost is inline with the other two out there.

I got the one for my 66 GS from Carmen Faso.  I think he was cheaper then TA or the others. I can dig up his number if you like.  He has no internet site or business.   It is a very nice piece.

I was thinking Carmen might have something.  Need to call him anyways and see how things are going.
Been to his place a couple of times. Great place, definitely.

I bought one of the TA ones to sell with that 4-speed setup I sold several years ago.  It was well made and no issues with it.

 Thanks Brian.

It looks like the aftermarket ones I have found are all close in price.  So that isn't a big factor.

Still have a couple of the linkage parts to come up with yet. I think I will end up making the inner Z bar piece.

Have you found the clutch release bearing assembly?  That is the hardest part to find.  No one is making the collar with the clips on it.  All that I have been able to find lately is the bearing itself without the collar it presses onto.

Yes , got that covered .  Traded some parts with Pat G. for it and some other pieces.  Needs a new bearing in it, but as you pointed out, they are available.

I'm down to a couple of parts yet.  The rod that goes from the pedal to Z bar, the inner lever of the Z bar and the adjustment linkage.
 Also the clutch pedal itself.

I have and OEM, but purchased one from Russ, and installed it.
Installed fine, pilot bushing took normal effort to drive in.

During cam break in, no vibration issues. No bendix engagement or disengagement problems. (Tom Telesco's mini starter).
