New from LA.
« on: February 28, 2018, 08:05:37 PM »
:hello:, Hey everyone my Name is Ronnie and I'm 32 years old. I have been told about this forum from being on v8buick over thier my Name is Nailhead Ronnie. Members like trunk monkey and elagache told me but it was Edouard who gave me that push.
I own a 65 Skylark, bought it about 2 years ago. Since then my plans for it went from bbb 455, to cad 472 to now a BBB 430 and a th400. Still undecided on the rear. But it has been fun learing about Buicks and all things mechanical. My plan is to do all the grunt work myself. Thanks for reading.

Wow thanks for all the warm welcomes. Thank you John, Chuck, Lauren and GS 66. When I bought this car the owner had a 350 Chevy and 400  Chevy transmission in it ,  I asked the owner if he could yank out that engine and transmission and lower the price  and he agreed to it . I wanted to keep it all Buick. All this started one day when I was in traffic and a 64 or 65 GS pulled up on me and I couldn't figure out what it was until I followed it . Since you guys like pictures here are some of my car.

Hey Ronnie, that looks like a very restorable car.  And unique with the stainless molding going all around the roof.  I've not seen that before.

You're in for a lot of fun.  Might I suggest you start a thread in the Projects & Restorations section?  That way we can follow along and answer any questions that will come up along the way.  Looking forward to it!

Dear Ronnie, John, Chuck, Loren, Jim, and 65GS.com welcome wagon! . . .

:hello:, Hey everyone my Name is Ronnie and I'm 32 years old. I have been told about this forum from being on v8buick over thier my Name is Nailhead Ronnie. Members like trunk monkey and elagache told me but it was Edouard who gave me that push.

By all means welcome to 65GS.com!!

Among other things, it is a lot easier for me to use my vast collection of emotions on 65GS.com!

I own a 65 Skylark, bought it about 2 years ago. Since then my plans for it went from bbb 455, to cad 472 to now a BBB 430 and a th400. Still undecided on the rear. But it has been fun learing about Buicks and all things mechanical.

So you are now with a Buick 430?  My wagon has a stroker version of that engine.  It definitely looks good in a 1965 engine bay with Nailhead green valve covers.

My plan is to do all the grunt work myself. Thanks for reading.

If you are doing the work yourself you'll definitely have to supply all the perspiration, but we'll glad provide you with plenty of inspiration! (and good advice too! )

Once more welcome!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

P.S. Since you are in LA you might try to catch the OPGI Buick show that's coming up on May 19th:

http://65gs.com/board/index.php?topic=3889.0

Attendance is free and you might pick up some more good ideas from that crowd.

Ok Chuck I'll do just that, first I'm going to gather more pictures and questions and I'll start a build thread. Thanks for liking my Name, I think that will be the name of the car when it's all done.

Edouard, thanks for bringing me to the site and hopefully I can shake your hand in person come may 19 in seal beach. I'm going to try to make it.

Nice starting point Ronnie.  The halo trim on the Skylark makes for a nice place to two tone the paint .
 Thanks for the pictures too.

Loren thanks I really thought all Skylarks had that trim piece. Learned something on my 1st day lol.

I 'll play with a two tone option in my head, thanks everyone.

Ronnie

Another welcome from Minnesota

I owned a 64 Skylark with your roof trim and a white vinyl roof insert purchased in San Jose 1972 living in Monterey CA.

The vinyl roof material cracked and the roof itself didn't have much paint if any from the factory so I had rust issues on top.

I sure loved that combination and it was highlighted in the 1964 sales brochure.

The painted ones like yours hold up a lot better.

As stated before this is the place for hope, understanding, and the facts on 1964 5 6 Buick A body.

Once again welcome.

 You are correct, Ronnie.

All '64 and '65 Skylark hardtop and thin pillar coupe [ post ] cars had the aluminum Halo trim on the top.

I've done two '65 Skylarks with the top painted a complementary color. It adds a nice look.
