Favorite Paint color scheme
« on: February 08, 2018, 08:20:55 PM »
Ok, Folks. I don't know how many times I've looked at the color chip chart for 1965 Buicks.
It seems sacrilege to paint something other than original, yet here I am sporting 1987 Toyota White on an original Shell Beige car.

In any case, I'm always wondering, what would I do if I wanted to go with another paint color?

So... what's everyone's favorites? And in all honesty I doubt I've seen half of what was available in '65.

I always like the two tone colors. White with a black top is good. My brother had a 442 White with a reddish top and also green with a white top, those were nice as well. But, these 65s look good any color!

My favorite paint scheme is Buick.

The first 60 years were spent on surviving. The second 60 are gonna be spent on fun!

Dear Iain, Jim, Michael, and mid-60s Buick exterior decorators,

Ok, Folks. I don't know how many times I've looked at the color chip chart for 1965 Buicks.

Well the first question is indeed whether or not you have seen the exterior paint chip choices for 1965 Buicks.  This website has the list and some chip samples (although limited by the quality of your Internet display:)

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?model=Buick&year=1965&con=yo

If you really want to get the color spot-on you can still find on eBay actually color chip sheets from 1965.  I bought one and that helped the body shop that repainted my trusty wagon.  So which color do I really like the best? . . . . .   :love4:

Seafoam green of course!! . . .  :laughing7:

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

After Turquoise/White or Bamboo Cream/Black a Black/Red post car would be next.

The two tones add dimensions and contrast to a already cool body lines of the 65's! I  have a white over red with white interior hardtop car that is very stunning! I also had a four door special that was aqua top and  turquoise bottom!

Thanks everyone for chiming in!

I have to agree, these cars look so good in any color. Though, the difference in color gives it a bit different personality (Buick-ality?)

I like that white over red. That's a cool look.

Skylark ventiports allow more choices. (Re: Favorite Paint color scheme)

Dear Iain and mid-60s Buick owners,

I have to agree, these cars look so good in any color. Though, the difference in color gives it a bit different personality (Buick-ality?)

Buick used different styling between the Special and Skylarks and the differences can effect which colors work.  The 1965 Special ventiports have the red insert.  That looks great against a green contrast and should be fine with white or black, but might not look the best with a color like Burgundy Mist.  The Skylark ventiports are more neutral in color so any of the factory colors look great on a Skylark.

So indeed you have plenty of choices!

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

And the GS ventiports go with anything!!   They make the front fenders an open landscape.
