Interior color: Gold
« on: January 28, 2018, 12:58:44 PM »
Still confused by this.

According to online sources decoding my VIN tag, I should have a beige interior.

Yet, I don't. And I don't think they car ever did. The dash (metal) was gold. The vinyl on the seats was gold. And, the door panels, gold.
I would think it strange that beige would turn to gold from exposure to the Sun.

I also have no reason to believe the entire interior was changed out. Mostly because of the gold dash.

Mainly I ask because I would like to return the car to a mostly original appearance. And gold is a whole lot different than beige.

Your interior color is fawn. Do you have a front bench seat ?

Yes I do have a bench seat. And I did see that my interior color is listed as fawn. Still strange to me but I guess after years the pigment in the vinyl broke down.

Though of course I do know I had brown carpet, and that is not listed.

___

I sent off for a sample from Legendary. I still believe it is possible for a VIN not to match up. One of the colors listed is a GM 'gold metallic' for 1965. So, maybe I'll finally have a moment of truth.
The vinyl that was hidden from the sun looks gold, and I can't see how pigment to make a beige vinyl would break down and appear gold.

2/23 The sample came in. Matches original exactly. Appears gold to me, but called fawn.

Maybe someone else has an idea here: my driver door panel was in really bad shape. At the time I selected a close vinyl to re-do it.
I would prefer to keep the other panels because they're original in pretty good shape. I'm happy Legendary has come through with an accurate repro vinyl. But short of buying 2 front panels from them, don't know what to do. Not really in the mood to pester them about selling me yardage, as I think it's unlikely they would do that anyway.
Anyone have an idea here? I have never found another vinyl to be so accurate.

Legendary could likely just make you one panel. Or buy the material from SMS and have someone else make the panel.

Dear Iain, Walt, and mid-60s Buick caregivers,

I agree with Walt.  Give Legendary a call and see if they would make you one panel.  All you've got to lose is the time.  If they won't, consider saving up and buying two front panels from them.  The door panels get the most wear, so that should help Ruthy last that much longer.  Since Legendary does make very accurate panels and the rest of them are in good shape, Ruthy's interior should look great if you simply clean the OEM vinyl carefully.

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:

P.S. Don't forget that Legendary has sales around holidays like Memorial day with significant discounts.

Thanks for the input guys. Good suggestions. I stitched and installed vinyl on that panel back when I was a novice. And with the fuzzy fallen off to boot, I'm really over it.
I contacted Legendary via email so we'll see if they can whip something up for me.
And if it looks too new, I'll wait for the nearest 115? day and let it sit in the sun for a bit.  :tongue3:

Legendary will only build out a set.
So there's SMS but I would have to do the work myself or get my auto interior guy to do it.

May have to go back burner. Still trying to get this quarter window installed.

Yup. Halfway there. Funny thing that confuses me - in the body manual it describes the procedure stating models and mine is the '37' model. Then later in the book it describes the procedure without referencing models. And the instructions are slightly different. But I think I've got a hold on it.
Only other thing is I fail to find an original seal that holds the glass in the bracket. Might have to take it to the glass shop and have them urethane it.

Is your car a sedan (post) model?  Your comment about the seals for the door glass made me suspicious that you have a Sedan.  JMOS here on the board can help you with the glass attachment issue--he has been down that road with his car.
