Experience with metal carport kits?
« on: September 17, 2017, 04:26:55 PM »
Dear mid-60s Buick owners who like their vehicles properly covered.

Like many families, we have the predicament of having more cars than space in the existing garage.  To protect the odd vehicle out, we have relied on a basic carport made of simple tarp supported by a tubular frame.  Here is an example of the concept:

Of course the tarp wears out periodically and this year it needs replacing.  Instead of doing that, I'm contemplating an upgrade to an all metal carport structure that is available from a number of vendors.  Here is one:

Here is another one that happens to have a model that is compact enough to fit in the limited space we have:

These are quite a bit more expensive, but would clearly provide better protection and would look better than our tarp and steel tubes.  Because they can be ordered to a particular size, they would provide better protection for the car since the carport we have now is about 4 feet too short.

Does anybody have experience with these sorts of kits?  It certainly looks like an interesting option, but they are a recent innovation so I'm not sure how durable they are.

A curious mind would like to know!  :icon_scratch:

Cheers, Edouard  :occasion14:
