The input shaft and the tail housing are the indicators.
the GS trans has "GS" cast between the shifter bosses on the tail housing as was mentioned earlier in this thread.
Right...GS trans should have 3 grooves on the input. In Steve's ad on V8Buick, it looks like there is only one groove on the input.
Brian, do the munber of grooves denote whether it is a wide ratio or close ratio? ie
3 grooves= close ratio GS
1 groove= wide ratio Skylark?
'GS' on tailshaft....Someone posted (Ted?) that his Wildcat 4 speed also has the 'GS' on the tail. So it's possible just one tailshaft was used on all 65-66 4 speed cars, big and small.
